Surrealism at Casa del Sol Inn

If you are looking for a little color to splash the walls of your home, you might want to check out the work of Lakeside artist Claudia Nery.

Her oil paintings are one-of-a-kind and she uses either paper or canvas as her substrate.  “I always bring something different to each painting,” Nery says. “No two are alike.”

Nery’s work has been seen in over 200 exhibitions throughout Mexico and internationally.  For her inspiration, she wanders through primitive art, bringing faces, symbols and animals to life through her paintings. Her imagined portraits are layered with abstract and geometric patterns that add depth and dimension to the characters she is depicting.

Nery’s palette is sometimes vibrant and sometimes muted. She lets her mood determine the outcome of her work. The final images are composed of strong figures that are often very linear and dripping with color and adornment. Surrealism is her forte and she revels in the freedom that abstract painting brings to her life.

Nery is returning to Casa del Sol Inn in Ajijic after a successful show in the summer of 2022.  There will be a Meet the Artist reception on Saturday, March 4, from 4-6 p.m. Stop by the light-filled sala of the venue to visit with Claudia and learn more about her work and what inspires her.
