ASA revamped with big umbrella name

Following a year of extraordinary growth, leaders of the Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) recognized that the organization had reached a crossroads and it was time to implement structural changes to better serve its members and the community at large.

pg15aA major overhaul of the organization was announced and explained in detail Monday, June 5 at the monthly membership meeting held at Ajijic’s Garden of Dreams boutique hotel.

In summary, ASA will henceforth operate on a horizontal rather than top-to-bottom management system, and under the more inclusive bilingual name Artist Alliance of Lake Chapala, or Alianza de Artistas del Lago de Chapala (AALC).

The aim is to embrace a broader spectrum of the Lake Chapala region’s Mexican and foreign resident artists, spanning Chapala to Jocotepec and points beyond, and to encourage members to take part in sharing responsibilities for the organization’s activities rather than having that on the shoulders of a few elected officers.
