Neill James legacy artists set auction date

The Neill James Legacy artists collective, headed by Antonio López Vega, has announced plans for an art auction on Thursday, August 24 at the esplanade outside the Centro Cultural de Ajijic located on the north side of the plaza.

pg24aThe event will feature bidding on approximately 50 works by local artists who have emerged from the original children’s library and art project started in the early 1950s by the late author and early expatriate settler Neill James, as well as some of those who followed in their footsteps through the subsequent Children’s Art Program (CAP) sponsored by the Lake Chapala Society.

The art works going on the block will be put up on exhibit from 10 a.m., with the auction starting at 4 p.m. There will be a cash bar and botana snacks available to everyone in attendance.

Participating artists include Antonio López Vega, Dionicio Morales, Víctor Romero, Jaime Vega, Daniel Palma and Jesús López Vega from the first generation of Neill James prodigy, along with Federico Enciso, Bruno Mariscal, Lucía Padilla, Miguel Ángel Márquez and Isela Martínez, who began dabbling in art as youngsters in the 1980s.

Others whose talents developed from childhood experiences in CAP are Rosario López García, Oscar Orlando Ibarra, Bruno Mariscal Jr., Jesús Eduardo López, José María Reyes, Karina Gutiérrez, Krishna Ortiz Estrada, Ramón Carranza and Karla Berenice Vázquez.

Proceeds from the auction will go directly to the artists who make sales, with the option of making voluntary contributions to the Legacy collective’s fund for community activities related to the visual arts.
