Northern Lights Music Festival celebrates 20-year anniversary

Anticipation is starting to build for an event that has become synonymous with artistic and musical excellence at Lakeside: the Northern Lights Festival de Febrero, the annual February event that has woven itself into the fabric of the village, drawing classical and jazz music enthusiasts from far and wide.

Known for transforming Ajijic into a haven for music lovers, the Northern Lights Festival de Febrero has consistently delivered world-class concerts. From intimate chamber recitals to grand orchestral performances, the festival has been a steadfast pillar of the community.

Artistic Director Christopher Wilshere seems especially excited about this season: “It is our 20th anniversary, so that has to call for some kind of celebration.”

Wilshere says more than 30 musicians will attend this year, including a whole slew of new faces. Flying into Ajijic in February will be world-renowned violinist Kerson Leong, four-time Juno winner and two-time Gemini nominee Sarah Slean, a French tenor named Marcel D’Entremont from the Canadian Opera Company, three of Toronto’s most prestigious contemporary dancers, and one of the best jazz bands from Canada with a long list of Juno, Grammy and Gemini nominations to their names.
