It looks like Lakeside Little Theatre is two for two with Season 61!
“The Tin Woman” by Sean Grennan is a well-acted drama that shows us novel and complicated facets of universal human truths. Collette Clavadetscher directs the play, which features both veteran and new actors.
“Tin Woman” opens with Joy (Debra Felix) recovering in a hospital from heart transplant surgery. Immediately, we can tell she is kind of a snarky soul who hasn’t quite come to grips with her second chance at life. She is tended by an infantilizing nurse (Michael Hall), who adds humor to the serious situation. Joy’s interactions with her friend Darla (Catherine B. Caldera) also have moments of levity.
While we follow Joy throughout the play, we also follow the family of her heart donor, Jack (Damyn Young). And Jack’s spirit follows everyone (with appropriately moody lighting by Ted Tessier, Edgar Antonio and Maggie Beyer).
Each of Jack’s surviving family members is grieving differently, some more effectively than others. On one hand, we have his younger sister Sammy (Donielle Dennis), who likes to process things openly and publicly. On the other hand, we have Jack’s parents, Hank (Maloy Murdock) and Alice (Donna Burroughs), who alternately bicker, drink, deny, and ignore each other when their pain is too much to bear.
