The Lake Chapala area is about to witness the birth of its own orchestra. Spearheaded by several expat musicians, the organization will be known as the Lake Chapala Community Orchestra. Its mission will include serving the local communities as a performing arts ensemble and as a vehicle for educational opportunities for young musicians within the Lake Chapala region and beyond.
Lakeside Little Theatre’s fundraising program has accumulated almost 3.4 million pesos over the past 18 months. The goal of the exercise is to raise around five million pesos to undertake extensive renovations to the theater.
It is the third day into the two-week Festival del Lago, a teaching and performance gathering at lakeside for musicians from all over the world, and it is hard to find a typical student among the 37 in attendance.
The Jalisco Opera Company will present an afternoon program of music by many of the greats of the opera world at a gala sponsored by Viva la Musica Thursday August 30, 4 p.m., at St. Andrews Anglican Church.
