Noche Mexicana

Another event to raise funds for Pro-Auditorio is the “Noche Mexicana” on Saturday, September 24, 5 p.m. on the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago patio.

Ballet Folklorico of San Juan Cosala will be featured along with Mariachis Los Gavilanes and Ricardo and Blanca. The ticket price of 250 pesos includes a delicious Mexican meal and one margarita. Tickets are already on sale.

The mural

The public gathered August 26 at Chapala City Hall for the official unveiling of Ajijic native Efren Gonzalez’s low-fire ceramic mosaic mural depicting “Mexico’s History as a Free Nation.”

Historical figures in the work include Miguel Hidalgo, Chapala area insurgents and other Mexican heroes. The mural includes symbols of the country’s pre-Hispanic past and portraits of his three children, representing future generations.

A collection of Gonzalez’s paintings are also on display in the City Hall lobby. Do take the time to see these works and the mural.

Visitors

The Feria Maestros el Arte is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year on November 18, 19 and 20 at the Chapala Yacht Club.

This special event brings together artisans from all over Mexico to showcase their best work. The travel is expensive for most of them and staying in hotels is beyond the financial reach of many. Feria organizers are looking for housing for these folks for the duration of the event. You don’t have to have a “casita” on your property for them to stay in (although that would be nice). All you need is a room where they can sleep and a bathroom where they can clean up.

These artisans travel from the far reaches of Mexico and their beautiful and unique art is surpassed only by their appreciation of your hospitality. This is a great opportunity to have an exchange of culture with the people of our host country.

If you have the space and the inclination to make what, in many cases, are life-long friendships, contact Marie Jordan at (376) 766-2342.

Donations

The Pro-Auditorio committee is soliciting donations of valuable items for its “Taste of Ajijic and Silent Auction” on December 9. They are looking for artworks, jewelry, time shares, maybe a small car – whatever. Remember this event is for a very good cause and that music lovers will benefit for years to come in terms of safety, comfort and improved acoustics. Contact VIVA President Rosemary Keeling at 766-1801 if you have something you would like to donate.
