Congratulations to Arturo Aceves, owner and operator of Los Crotos Posada in the village of San Luis Soyotlan on the south side of Lake Chapala. The recent art exhibition held there (the first ever in that village) was spectacular and so was the crowd. Hopefully Aceves will see his way clear in the near future for another such event. Featured artists at the event were Cornelio Garcia, Antonio Lopez Vega, Jesus Lopez Vega, Isidro Xilonxochitl, Pat Apt, DePaul Durham and Kathy Seaboyer.
Get dressed up
A new community project, “Facharte,” is hoping to turn Ajijic into an internationally known “living museum.”
Jaime Barbiery invites residents of Ajijic to participate by having their house facades, doors, doorways, garage doors, rocks, nearby utility poles or even trees painted or decorated, so that when folks are here for the Pan Am Games – or just to visit our town – and are meandering through village streets, they’ll be impressed by its beauty.
Artists from the community will be on hand to help bring your ideas to fruition – or you can come up with your own simple or extravagant designs.
This year, the Ajijic Delegacion will select the best creations and present certificates of honor to homeowners during the November 30 celebration of the San Andres Festival.

New board
The Music Appreciation Society (MAS) selected a new board of directors at its general assembly held on September 16.
Kathleen Phelps is president, Mike McCarthy, treasurer; Barbara Johnson, sub-treasurer; Betha Arline, secretary; Michael Warren, ticket sales; Joan Lowy, house manager; Jill Ann Skaggs, hospitality and Jim Parker, communications.
MAS has seen a strong surge of season ticket sales this month in anticipation of the exciting new concert series ahead. Sales will continue through September 30, from 10 a.m. to noon each day at the Lake Chapala Society Tickets, Etc. booth.
The MAS season Kick-off Party is set for Friday, October 28 from 4-6 p.m. at Hotel La Nueva Posada. The event will be free to all season ticket holders. Their guests are welcome at a charge of 200 pesos each. Music will be provided by a trio from the Orquesta de Chapala.

Pro auditorio
Saturday, September 24, 5 p.m., the Pro Auditorio group is throwing a Gran Noche Mexicana (Mexican Night) on the patio of Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago. The event features a Mexican meal with one free margarita and a cash bar. Entertainment will be provided by three different groups: Mariachi Los Gavilanes, Ballet Folklorico Son de Mexico and the popular singing duo, Ricardo and Blanca.
Take some friends to enjoy the fiesta and support a good cause. Tickets are 250 pesos each and are available at the auditorium.
Good cooking
The presentation categories for this month’s competition of the Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) were Mexican Main Dish (category A) and Mexican Dessert (category B).
Top spots in category A went to Joan Lowry for her Choyote Pie in first place, Sally Myers for her Carne de Cerdo con Cuatro Chilis in second place and Lydia Cortez for her Cochinita Feliz con Arroz in third place.
Category B top spots went to Marti Hurley for her Mexican Chocolate Pie with Spiced Pecans in first place, Gaye Brown for her Dos Lechas Pie with Lime, Chocolate and Pineapple in second place and Karen Blue for her Margarita Cake in third place.
People’s Choice Awards went to the judges’ first place winners, Marti Hurley and Joan Lowry.
The Third CASA Progressive Dinner was held on Saturday, August 27. The theme for the dinner was Spanish. It was a huge success.
