Musical Christ story

The story of Christ was told in an amazing musical presentation by five talented musicians at the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church.

The talents were those of Eric Callis on guitar, Patrick Dumouchel, vocals and percussion; Bob Hendrick, vocals, mandolin, banjo and steel guitar; Judy Hendrick, vocals and keyboard and eight-year-old Miguel Nguyen, vocals and percussion.

Nguyen captivated the congregation with his presentation of the entire genealogy of Matthew, Chapter 1.

The performance will be repeated in January for those who were away for the holidays.

All are encouraged to watch for the announcement of this special service and know that they are invited to attend.

Sunday services are held at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Horn blowing

Lakeside music fans are in for a real treat when Chapala native and world-class trumpeter Chucho Lopez returns to his home turf for a concert at Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago on Saturday, January 14, 7 p.m.

Lopez, who left town in pursuit of greater goals when he was a teenager, has performed with Barry White, Vicky Carr, Tony Bennett, Lupita d’Alesio and the great mambo king, Perez Prado, for whom he played lead trumpet for many years and in several venues. He has traveled the globe playing in the “big time” in New York, Los Angeles, Madrid and Tokyo.

Making up his “big band’ here will be Victor Patron on piano, Pepe Hernandez on bass, Mario Patron, Jr. on keyboard and Geovany Figueroa on drums. The program will include technically complicated and beautiful scores, such as “Granada” and “The Flight of the Bumblebee.” Tickets are 300 pesos and on sale at La Nueva Posada, El Jardin Restaurant, American Legion Post Seven and the Auditorium.

The story is a drama that unfolds on Christmas Eve of 1919 in Munich, Germany. As the cold winds of post-war social, political and economic upheaval swirl outside, the modest home of Friedrich and Eva Klein is darkened both by the specters of those the family has lost in the war, as well as by the secrets held by those who have survived. Entering the picture is a stranger, Herr Wolf, a decorated veteran and itinerant artist and an overpowering presence that captivates the family while he challenges them personally and politically. Checkoway will handle the role of narrator for the production that stars veteran actors Jeritza McCarter, Ray Himmelman, Sylvia Bitting, Collette Clavadetscher, Diana Rowland and Ken Yakiwchuk. The Naked Stage is located at Plaza de la Ribera, Rio Bravo 10 on the west end of Ajijic. Performances will begin at 4 p.m. A donation of 80 pesos for admission is requested. Reservations are recommended. Contact Ann Pinkerton at (376) 766-5986." align="left" />The Naked Stage
