The judges were Massimo Pampaloni, owner of Ristorante Da Massimo’s, Alex Sgroi, owner of Paralelo and Marco de la Barrera, owner of several restaurants in Guadalajara.

The competition featured Italian Main Dish for Category A and Italian Desserts for Category B. The winners were, in Category A, Sally Myers with her Timpano Macaroni. Tied for second place were Monica Molloy with her Harry’s Bar Monkfish and Shrimp Cannelloni with Shrimp and Lobster Sauce and Wayne Palfrey with his Ravioli Puttanesca with Creamy Onion Sauce. Exhibition

Ajijic artist Cathy Chalvignac will open her studio and garden to the public on Saturday, July 28, 3 p.m. for her latest exhibition of paintings, “Transportadores del Tiempo” (Time Travelers).

Besides viewing Chalvignac’s exquisite photographic-realism paintings, visitors will enjoy cocktails, music of the jazz group Acasia and the beautiful ambiance of the garden located at Calle 16 de Septiembre 22.

Auditions

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) will hold auditions for “Quartet” on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 in the theater lobby. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with auditions beginning at 10 a.m.

Director Ann Swiston will be looking for two women and two men in the 70s age range.

The play, written by Ronald Harwood, takes place in a retirement home for opera singers. The four players were once a famous quartet in the opera “Rigoletto.” It’s Verdi’s birthday and, as the highlight of the celebration they are being asked to perform it once again for the other retirees. Not to worry – no actual singing is required.

Performance dates are September 29 to October 7. All who volunteer at LLT, whether on stage or off stage are required to be LLT members. Memberships will be available at the auditions.

The theater is located on the mountain side of the Carretera in San Antonio Tlayacapan next to the Instituto Loyola campus and behind El Parque.

Naked stage

The Naked Stage Readers’ Theatre presents “Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me” on July 27, 28 and 29, 4 p.m.

The play, written by Frank McGuinness and directed by Collette Clavadetscher, focuses on the trials and tribulations of three men, Edward, Michael and Adam, who are kidnapped and held hostage by Arabs in Lebanon. As victims of political action, powerless to initiate change, what can they do? As the three men strive for survival they also strive to overcome their personal differences. The audience is made witness and accomplice to a humor based on something apparently ghastly – the loss of rationality.

The cast includes Mark Bennett, John Ward, Michael Warren. Dick Yanko is the narrator.

The Naked Stage is located at Rio Bravo 10A in west Ajijic, behind the San Pedro Restaurant. The donation is 80 pesos. Reservations are recommended. Call 766-5986 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
