ASA

The Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) is preparing for a new experience; there will be a presentation of live performance art at the group’s Monday, September 1, 10 a.m. meeting at La Bodega.

Randy Tumblin plans to draw a quartet of talented local musicians as they play. His own rhythm with charcoal and pencil will follow the movement of the music, the various instruments, and melodies as they play.

Visiting the ASA meeting and serving as both entertainment and models will be Daniel Medeles, Juan Pablo Medeles, Rodrigo Leal, and Chuni Medeles. All of these talented youngsters are friends, Ajijic natives who all excel as musicians under the baton of Maestro Victor Manuel Medeles.

These quartet members play in a variety of different orchestras, including the Orquesta Filarmónica de Zapopan, the Orquesta de la Secretaria de Cultura de Jalisco, and the Orquesta Axixic. They were trained by the music teachers in area private schools, in the Orquestra Filamónica Infantil de la Ribera de Chapala, Orquesta Axixic and the Golden Strings program.

Once Tumblin retired 21 years ago, graphic arts became one of his passions. With his engineering and business administration degrees of little use in the field of graphic arts, he jumped into the new field, and read as much as he could find.

His library of art has grown over the years as have the mediums he has explored – pencil, charcoal, oil, pastel and watercolor.  Still, after more than two decades in the arts, he cannot specify a preference for one genre, even while he is probably best known for his figurative and portrait work.
