Concert

A concert of piano and violin featuring David Borboli and Rosa Maria Valdez will be held Sunday, June 19, 4 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo. Entrance is 100 pesos.

LLT playhouse

The Lakeside Little Theatre offers two special HD screening presentations via its affiliation with London’s Royal Opera House and the National Theatre. 

Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19, features the National Theatre Live’s HD screening of “As You Like It,” Shakespeare’s glorious comedy of love and change, with Rosalie Craig as Rosalind.

With her father the Duke banished and in exile, Rosalind and her cousin Celia leave their lives in the court behind them and journey into the Forest of Arden. There, released from convention, Rosalind experiences the liberating rush of transformation. Disguising herself as a boy, she embraces a different way of living and falls spectacularly in love.

Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, LLT Showcase presents the Royal Opera House’s HD screening of Gaetano Donizetti’s tragic masterpiece “Lucia di Lammermoor.” 

Acclaimed Director Katie Mitchell’s production of Donizetti’s tragedy relates the descent of Lucia, compelled by her brother to abandon her betrothed, and tricked into a loveless marriage, into grief, madness, and murder.

Show times are Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 3 p.m. Tickets, 200 pesos, are available at the LLT box office Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon or one hour before curtain. Seats can be reserved at time of purchase. The Angel Terrace Bar is open one hour before show time and during intermission.

Acting Workshop

A Scene Study/Acting Workshop will commence a new series on Monday, June 20, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. under the tutelage of Roseann Wilshere (with an assist by Jayme Littlejohn). Galen in concert

Pianist Galen will perform two “Concert by Candlelight” shows on Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21, 6 p.m. in his home. The food, service, wine, entertainment and desserts are all top notch. Young musicians

A recital by the INBA Chapala school will showcase young local talent on piano, violin, flute and guitar, at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo, Thursday, June 23, 7 p.m. Admission is 30 pesos.

Naked Stage

The Naked Stage presents “Bakersfield Mist” by Stephen Sachs from Friday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26.  Directed by Diana Rowland, the play features Roseann and Tony Wilshere. 

This “odd couple” play puts together a cultured art expert and unemployed female bartender who argue whether a large painting she bought at a flea market for a joke is actually a Jackson Pollock original.

The Naked Stage Theatre is located at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar. Box office opens 3:15 p.m. and the show begins at 4 p.m. 

The Dog House bar serves up cocktails, beer and soft drinks, and benefits local animal shelters. 

Noche Mágica benefit

Settle in for a magical evening of dance, music and more at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Friday, June 24, 5 p.m., to help support the Cruz Roja Chapala. 

The Noche Mágica benefit show features a variety of dazzling dance styles, including sultry tango moves performed by Joel de la O. and Güera Ascencio, the fancy footwork of an Argentine malambo gaucho soloist, and hot jazz numbers by Andrea Sarahí Ulloa and the Academia Danza Contemporánea. 

Live instrumental accompaniment will be provided the Academia Musa orchestra under the baton of Moisés Real Gómez. Rounding out the program, Circo Greca will appear with some light-hearted contemporary circus acts.

Advance tickets are available at Yoly’s Unisex salon and El Torito Supermarket at Plaza Bugambilias or the Cruz Roja clinic in Chapala. The admission price is 150 pesos for the center section and 100 pesos for side seats.

Children’s Orchestra

The Children’s Orchestra and Choral group of San Juan Cosala (supported by Musica Para Crecer A.C.) present a concert at the Jocotepec Auditorio Friday, June 24, 10 a.m. The one-hour program includes music from Pocahontas, the Lion King, Grace, African music, two songs by Paco Padilla and various other tunes. The cost is 15 pesos.

Ajijic Music Fest

Saturday, June 25, a music fest will be held on the service road along the Carretera in Ajijic between Donas Donuts and El Barco from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Music, dancing, food and drink are the order of the day. The cost is 20 pesos per person to pay the musicians and children under five enter free.

Baroque

A quintet interprets the baroque music of Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Bach at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala on Thursday, June 30. The concert begins 7 p.m. and entrance is 100 pesos.

Belle Epoque

Viva la Musica presents Belle Epoque, an evening of turn-of-the-century French Art Song (referred to as “melodies”), featuring Portuguese soprano Laeticia Grimaldi, accompanied by South African pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz. The performance is Thursday, July 28, 5 p.m. at Villa Lucerna. The evening will begin with a champagne reception served in the beautiful garden of this private estate, followed by a concert in the elegant salon of the lakefront home. Attendance is limited to 60 people. 

Tickets (advance only) are available at the LCS box office on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is 450 pesos for Viva Members and 500 pesos for non-members.

Bravo! Theatre

“Extravaganza – a Variety Show” will be presented at the Bravo! Theatre in July.  As the name implies there will be a variety of entertainment from sing-a-longs with the Ukelele Club, to improv comedy with audience participation, to tap dance numbers (group and solo) to twisted fairy tales a la Shakespeare and of course some singing thrown in for good measure ¬ accompanied by the insanely talented and crazy Timothy G. Ruff Welch. A fun evening out with friends.
