ASA meeting

Miguel Nuñez is an architect by trade but watercolor has been his hobby.  Noticing that Riberas del Pilar had very little cultural opportunity for local children, he started a free children’s art program three or four years ago, and this has become a community project for him.

Nuñez recently started to teach adults, hoping to fund his children’s community project and eventually have a school for them. In the future hopes to invite famous artists to host watercolor seminars.

Meet Nuñez and see some of his work at the next meeting of the Ajijic Society of the Arts, Monday, October 3, 10 a.m. at La Bodega in Ajijic.

Photography Club

Maureen Clark is the guest photographer at the next meeting of the Photography Club of Ajijic, Tuesday, October 11, 2-4 p.m. at the Cultural Center of Ajijic.

Clark is a multi-faceted, multi-genre, multi-nation photographer, working one day on a family’s portrait, the next day ringside at a prize fight in Mexico, the next shooting antiquities for a New York museum, then focusing her lens in historic Turkey.

Her images can be found in the New York Art Museum and the Santé Fe Art Museum, and in various publications, including “Tribal Art”.

Clark’s photos have captured Hollywood’s attention, too, with her images donning sets for “The Office,” “Modern Family,” and “Parenthood” and she recently completed blues man John Mayall’s “A Special Life” album cover and shot the publicity photos for R&B/Soul/Funk/Pop sensation Niki J. Crawford.

Come and enjoy her photographs, and ask questions about her career in photography.

The club is open to everyone, amateur and professional. For more information, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">.

Political satire

Just back from over the pond and a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, The Kinsey Sicks present their timely show “Electile Dysfunction” at the Auditorio de la Ribera Monday, October 24, 6 p.m.

An a cappella quartet who bill themselves as “America’s Favorite Dragapella Beauty shop Quartet,” the Kinsey Sicks perform both original music and lyrics as well as parodies of well-known songs. Their shows are both comedic and highly politically charged.

With the race heating up for the U.S. presidency, “Electile Dysfunction” is a timely satire of American politics – a winning combination of tight harmonies and intelligent fun entertainment.

Tickets are on sale now at Diane Pearl and Jose Melendez. A discount of 50 pesos is offered for any ticket purchased before October 1.
