“Second Summer” by Gary Richards, directed by Paul Kloegman, is next up at the Lakeside Little Theatre, running Friday, March 24 to Sunday, April 2.
“Second Summer” is about the rebirth of an older man who finds the long dormant teenager within himself still exists. After all, “it’s not how old you are, it’s how you are old.”

Correction
The Viva La Musica! concert by the Zimmer-Nieto-Nath Trio noted in these pages last week had an error in the date. The concert is scheduled for Friday, March 31. The trio, featuring Marita Zimmer, piano; Gregorio Nieto, cello; and Charles Nath, clarinet; will perform pieces by Schumann, Beethoven and Brahms. Artist collective
Jaime Barbiery will host the work of local artists at Parroquia 9 at the corner of Marcos Castellanos, across from San Andres Church and San Andres School, Saturday, March 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Patrons will see Barbiery’s designer photography, Shannon Kilkenny’s decorative color design, Victor Alcazar’s whimsical paintings and multimedia, Heber Barajas’ artisan jewelry, Asuni Soto’s multi media art, Cesar Alfonso Gonzalez’ bonsai, work by clay artist Rafael Pineda and embroidered clothing by Maria Elena Mendoza.
Exhibit
Paintings by local artist Robert Murphy will be up at the Casa de la Cultura in Ajijic, from Saturday, March 25, 5 p.m.
Cantantes del Lago
Los Cantantes del Lago community choir will put on their fun Spring Fever concert, Tuesday, and Wednesday, March 28 and 29, 4 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera. The concert features music by the Beach Boys, disco, jazz standards and gospel, and more. Guest musicians include Jimmy Barto, Vox Ens4mble and Esteban & Justin – the wonderful boy sopranos from Los Cantantes’ last holiday concert and this spring’s Showstoppers concert.

The Naked Stage
The next production of The Naked Stage readers’ theater is Sarah Burgess’ riveting and timely play “Dry Powder,” which deals with the heartless acquisition of big money by private equity firms.
This show is directed by Phyllis Silverman and the cast includes Don Chaloner, Jon DeYoung, Alfred Kirkland, Geoffrey Long and Jacinta Stringer. A razor sharp play about the price of success and the real cost of getting a deal done – no matter the consequences – provides a raw and riveting peek into the underbelly of private equity firms and the people who inhabit them. As all successful profiteers very well know, it’s not about right or wrong or even business ethics. It’s all about the art of the deal.

Democrats Abroad Films
Democrats Abroad is sponsoring movies each Sunday dealing with U.S. politics, racial, economic and humanitarian issues. All the films are shown at Cinema del Lago in the Bugambilias Plaza in Ajijic, 1:30 p.m.
The March 26 feature, “Zero Days,” is a terrifying documentary that plays like a riveting espionage thriller, yet is fact based throughout, examining the existence and the peril of cyber warfare.

El Colectivo Carretoneros
El Colectivo Carretoneros, a group from Loma Bonita, Oaxaca, with an emphasis on Spanish fandango dance/music, will give a free presentation at the Andador Axixic Saturday, March 25, 7 p.m. and then again at La Peña de Santos Rico (Constitucion 16), 9 p.m., where a special menu will be offered.
Sketches
Isabel DeBlanc will churn out charcoal sketches in the garden at Sol Mexicano Thursday, March 30, 1-3 p.m. The gallery is offering a special sale of her work, with discounts of up to 25 percent for a limited period. All work is currently displayed at Sol Mexicano at Colon 13, Ajijic. The showing, which also includes Geraldine Classen and Carol Rome, continues until April 3.
Film Aficionados
Films are shown Thursdays at 2 p.m. to Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members (bring your card). On March 30 the featured film is “Queen of Katwe” (2016, Uganda/USA). This is the true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess.
Lake Chapala Chorale
The Lake Chapala Chorale is offering a special series of four free choral concerts, “Songs of Longing and Inspiration,“ April 1 to 4.
“We’re kind of the people’s choir of Lakeside,” says Director Cindy Paul. “We never charge for our performances, but we’re happy to receive donations when they come. We don’t charge our singers for their sheet music either. For us, it’s all about spreading joy through the power of uplifting music.”
These spring concerts will take the listener to a place of pure inspiration. They will be full of variety and pathos, and include some of the most beautiful music ever written, from “Shenandoah” to “Some Enchanted Evening.”
The concerts are April 1, 6 p.m. at Little Chapel by the Lake; April 2, 4 p.m. at the Ajijic Cultural Center; April 3, 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and April 4, 7 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo (old Chapala Train Station).
Dance Month
Desperanto will give a presentation of contemporary dance, Saturday, April 1, 7 p.m. and Ballet Folklorico Ttlacateotl will present Sunday, April 2, 7 p.m. as part of the Month of Dance at the Antigua Presidencia Chapala.

A series of recitals is scheduled each of the next eight Thursday evenings at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala, organized by the Department of Music of the University of Guadalajara. ASA meets
Beverly Kephart will demonstrate her technique in creating realism with colored pencils at the March meeting of the Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) Monday, April 3 at La Bodega Restaurant in Ajijic. The meeting begins 10 a.m. and the demonstration at 10:30 a.m.
Kephart and her husband, Mel Goldberg, moved to Ajijic eight years ago from Arizona after traveling for eight years in a motorhome. She spent 20 years in San Diego as an interior designer. After retiring she moved to Sedona, Arizona and taught watercolor, drawing and colored pencil at the Sedona Art Center for nine years. Kephart was designated “Master Artist” by the Art Center and has won state and national awards for her watercolors and colored pencil paintings.
Kephart paints realism. “I love the challenge of recreating a subject and, through the medium, make it look as realistic as possible.
Kephart is a member of the plein air artists of Ajijic. Her studio is located upstairs at the Efren Gonzalez Art Gallery.
That’s Entertainment
Amy Armstrong, accompanied by Jean-Guy Comeau, is appearing at the Auditorio de la Ribera April 5, 7 p.m. in her acclaimed show, “Muy Caliente.”
Armstrong hails from Chicago and has put on arguably the most popular show in Puerto Vallarta for the last 12 years. Affectionately known as Dirty Diva Loca with “the voice of an angel and the mouth of a sailor,” Armstrong was cited by Vallarta Lifestyles Magazine as one of the best shows in their annual “Best of Vallarta” in 2015.

LLT Playhouse series
Through its affiliation with Broadway HD, Lakeside Little Theatre will present the musical comedy “She Loves Me,” based on a play by Miklós László, Saturday, April 8, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 9, 3 p.m.

Al son de las olas
The Chapala municipal government hosts the second annual Festival de Musica Tradicional Mexicana, April 9 to 16. The program includes workshops, conferences, old-time serenades, a night of fandango, traditional music and dance performances.
Musical options include traditional mariachi, grand harps, marimba, banda tradicional, Jarocho, Huasteco, Caletano, Son de Tarima, Jarana Yucateca, Trova Yucateca, Mixteco, Tamborileros de Tabasco, Chirimia, a conjunto from the Costa Chica and traditional chorus groups. All music presentations are free of charge.
Live from the Met
Viva La Musica! sponsors Saturday bus trips to the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara to view productions of Live from the Met. Opera screenings are April 22, “Eugene Onegin” by Tchaikovsky; and May 13, “Der Rosencavalier” by R. Strauss.
