Christine Deaver presents her female cabaret show, “Christine Deaver – Hot and Spankless,” at The Cave, located next to Fenix Realty in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Friday, September 1, 4 p.m. and Saturday, September 2, 7 p.m.
The professionally trained actress, singer and comedian offers a one-woman cabaret bonanza show in her third appearance at Lakeside, including show tunes, pop, blues, standards, comedy, improv and more. Centro Cultural Ajijic is holding its seventh Fotoseptiembre Ajijic from September 2-14, showing the works of Cathy Chalvignac, Conrado III, Lauro Gutierrez, Maria Di Paola Blum, Adrian Vejar, Antonio Velazco, Rocio Lojero, Ricardo Hinojosa, Monica Cardenas, Xill Fessenden, Farid Bak Luis/Caballo, Adriana Cerpa, Jesus Gallardo, Juan Marcos, Joel Riva Bustos, David Paez, Jaime Barbiery, Edgard Alcazar, Manu Ortiz, Rebeca Ford, Jill Flyer and Hugo Valladolid. The show kicks off with an inauguration fiesta Saturday, September 2, 5-8 p.m.
ASA
Painter Phyllis Ray will demonstrate her sketching techniques at the next meeting of the Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA), Monday, September 4 at La Bodega Restaurant. LLT playhouse series
Gino is a drifter, down-at-heel and magnetically handsome. At a roadside restaurant, he encounters husband and wife, Giuseppe and Giovanna. Irresistibly attracted to each other, Gino and Giovanna begin a fiery affair and plot to murder her husband. But in this chilling tale of passion and destruction, the crime only serves to tear them apart.
Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT), in affiliation with National Theatre Live, presents high-definition screenings of the production “Obsession” September 9 and 10.
Jude Law stars in this production, recorded live from the Barbican Theatre in London. Ivo van Hove directs this adaptation of Luchino Visconti’s 1942 film.
Showings are Saturday, September 9, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 10, 3 p.m.
Tickets, 250 pesos, are available at the LLT box office, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon.
Orchestra bus trips
Viva La Musica is sponsoring bus trips to Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and a ballet performance at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara. Except for the ballet performance, the bus leaves at 4:30 p.m. with a stop at a good restaurant. Tickets (premium orchestra seats), 450 pesos (550 for non-members), are available at the LCS ticket booth on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon, or by calling Rosemary Keeling at 766-1801.
Thursday, September 14: “Mexico Sinfonico,” conducted by Marco Parisotto, features “Mariachitlan” by Contreras, “Huapango” by Moncayo, a cello concerto by Marquez with soloist Carlos Prieto and “La Noche de las Mayas” by Revueltas.
Friday, September 22: The talented Ballet de Jalisco performs “Romeo and Juliet” by Sergei Prokofiev. The bus leaves at 6 p.m. Tickets for this trip are 650 pesos (750 pesos for non-members).
Wednesday, October 18: “Hungarian Impressions,” conducted by Marco Parisotto, features “Suite” by Kodaly, “Piano Concerto No.1” by Liszt, with Daniela Liebman on piano, “Hungarian Dances” by Brahms and “Mandarin Suite” by Bartok.
Thursday, October 26: Saint-Saens’ “Organ Symphony No. 3,” conducted by Marco Parisotto.
Train station culture
The Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo (old train station) in Chapala has a host of events planned for this month.
Eros Ensamble will transport you to Mexico’s golden age of movies and even further in the past with tunes that rescue Mexico and Latin America’s music at a concert Thursday, September 7, 7 p.m.
Auto-Antologia, a showing of works by Gabriel Mariscao, unfolds Friday, September 8, 5 p.m. and be up through October 5.
The Ballet Folklorico Tierra en Movimiento performs Thursday, September 14, 7 p.m.
The Mozaretta Camara Orchestra takes the stage with a presentation of “Mexico de Antaño” Friday, September 22, 7 p.m.
Opera bus trips
Viva La Musica also hosts Saturday trips to HD live screenings of Live from the Met opera at the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara. Buses depart at 10:30 a.m.

October 7: “Norma” by Bellini,” with Sondra Radvanovsky as Norma and Joyce DiDonato as Adalgisa. The tragic role of Norma includes so many beautiful arias, it has been a launching pad for many distinguished sopranos.
October 14: “The Magic Flute,” by Mozart with Golda Schultz as Pamina and Kathryn Lewek as Queen of the Night. This is one of Mozart’s most popular operas, both moving and witty.
November 18: “The Exterminating Angel,” by Thomas Ades, the third opera by this British composer, based on a famous surrealist movie, with Audrey Luna as Leticia Maynar and Amanda Echalaz as Lucia de Nobile. It has an “urgent and apocalyptic intensity.”
Sincronico II
Taiwanese artist Yen-Hua Lee threads installation art at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia (old Chapala town hall) for her exhibit opening on Friday, September 1, 6 p.m., part of the Sincronico II municipal arts program.
LLT season tickets
Lakeside Little Theatre members can renew their season tickets September 6 and 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LCS ticket office.
This season’s productions include “Ripcord” September 29 to October 4; “Time Stands Still” November 3 to 12; “Calendar Girls” December 8-17; “Agnes of God” January 12-21; “Fiddler on the Roof” February 16-27; and “The Clean House” March 23 - April 1.

Air dancing
Air dancing using cloth ropes will be taught every Thursday, beginning September 7, 7:30-9 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. Using circus arts and rock climbing techniques, this event requires flexibility, resistance and strength. The first class is free for those aged five years and older, then 30 pesos per class. Bring water and comfortable clothes.
Singers wanted
Los Cantantes de Lago, the premier community choir of Lakeside, is accepting new singers for their annual holiday concert. Los Cantantes will perform holiday classics as well as Vivaldi’s “Gloria” with orchestra and a children’s choir. If you are interested in singing with Los Cantantes and working under Maestro Timothy G. Rehearsals for this choir, with members of all ages and many nationalities, start September 26.
‘SINGING ON A STAR’
The Lake Chapala Chorale, founded last summer by Cindy Paul, is putting on a two-act Broadway review called “Singing on A Star.” The program, held on four consecutive Sundays, presents world-famous musical theater hits sung by some of Lakeside’s best performers at La Bodega Restaurant. Show dates are September 24, October 1, 8 and 15, 4-6 p.m. Tickets, 150 pesos (200 pesos at the door), are available at Mia’s Boutique, Diane Pearl and the American Legion in Chapala.
