Naked Stage
Director Liz White brings “My Old Lady” to the Naked Stage Readers’ Theatre, Friday to Sunday, October 27-29, 4 p.m. Shows are almost sold out.
The play by famed playwright Israel Horovitz focuses on a down-on-his-luck New Yorker, who learns he has inherited a vast Paris apartment. But it is already inhabited by 90-something retiree Mathilde and her daughter Chloé ... and they have no intention of leaving. Complications arise, confrontations occur, skeletons fall out of the closet – and, since this is, after all, a story set in France, a considerable amount of wine is imbibed. Diana Rowland, Peggy Lord Chilton and Harry McFadden bring this affecting and amusing play to life.
Orchestra bus trips
Viva La Musica is sponsoring bus trips to Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra concerts at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara. Thursday, October 26: Saint-Saens’ “Organ Symphony No. 3,” conducted by Marco Parisotto. The bus leaves at 4:30 p.m. with a stop at a good restaurant.
Sunday November 19: Gustav Mahler, “Resurrection Symphony,” conducted by Marco Parisotto, with soprano Nicole Heaston, contralto Cassandra Zoe Velasco, and the Zapopan Municipal Choir directed by Timothy Ruff Welch. The bus leaves at 3:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. concert. No dinner stop.
Sunday November 26: Operatic Gala directed by Marco Parisotto features pieces from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bellini’s Norma, Puccini’s La Boheme and Turandot. Nicole Heaston, soprano, and Lorenzo Decaro, tenor, perform. Bus departs 10:30 a.m.

Galeria del Arte Sol Mexicano will hold an artists’ reception for photographer Ruben Varela and painter Jose Luis Ramirez Saturday, October 28, 4-7 p.m. Sol Mexicano is located at Colon 13 in Ajijic.
Collective show
Galeria de Arte Axixic is holding a showing of 14 local artists with the opening reception to be held Friday, November 3, 3-7 p.m. The Gallery is located at Rio Zula 1, corner of Ocampo in West Ajijic. Paintings, etchings, sculptures and retablos will be shown, and music, cocktails and botanas will be enjoyed.
LLT
“Time Stands Still,” Lakeside Little Theatre’s next production, is a poignant contemporary drama written by Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Donald Margulies about Sarah, who has returned from covering the Iraq war after being injured by a roadside bomb, and her boyfriend James, who is swamped by guilt after leaving Sarah alone in Iraq. Their friend Richard, a photo editor, introduces them to his new, much younger girlfriend Mandy. The play focuses on their relationships and Sarah and James’ prospects for a more conventional life.
Directed by David Goldman and featuring Don Beaudreault, Johanna Labadie, Greg Custer and Carolyn Cothran, “Time Stands Still” runs November 3-12 at Lakeside Little Theatre. Evenings, the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. and the first Saturday and both Sunday matinees begin 3 p.m.

Viva la Musica
Guadalajara tenor Ricardo Calderon and pianist Timothy G. Ruff Welch perform in the New World Song Cycle, Thursday, November 9, 7 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar. Calderon will sing classics such as “Beautiful Dreamer,” “Do Not Go My Love,” Bring Him Home” and “Maria.” Tickets, 300 pesos, are available at Diane Pearl, Mia’s Boutique and the Lake Chapala Society ticket booth.
Maestros del Arte
The 16th annual Feria Maestros del Arte is scheduled Friday, November 10 to Sunday, November 12 at the Club de Yates de Chapala. More than 85 artists from all over Mexico will show and sell their wares. Several artisan families whose homes were devastated in the recent earthquakes will be at the event.
This year, a demonstration and lecture series will be held each day at a special tent with the banner “The Story Behind the Art.” On Friday, presentations on silk rebozos and papel picado will be featured. Oaxacan textile weavers and dyers and carved bone artisans will be showcased on Saturday, and Susana Valdez from the Huichol Center for Cultural Survival will be on hand on Sunday.

Director Paul Kloegman is looking for three women for the Lakeside Little Theatre production of “Agnes of God” to be staged January 12-21, 2018. Auditions are Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11, 9:30 a.m. at the theater.
