Vera Lynn tribute
Cindy Paul performs “We’ll Meet Again,” a tribute to Vera Lynn, at an event sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion at La Casa del Musico, La Paz 59 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18, 7-9 p.m.
Lynn is an English singer whose musical recordings and performances were enormously popular during World War II. In 2009, at the age of 92, she became the oldest living artist to top the U.K. Albums Chart, with “We’ll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn.” She released the album “Vera Lynn 100” earlier this year to commemorate her centennial year, and it was a number three hit, making her the oldest recording artist in the world and first centenarian performer to have an album in the charts.

Mariachi gala for Cruz Roja
Enjoy an evening of lively Mexican song, dance and tequila tasting at the Mariachi Gala scheduled for Friday, November 17, 5 p.m., at the Auditorio de la Ribera, La Floresta. The stage show is organized by the lakeside branch of the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, with proceeds going to Cruz Roja Chapala.

Saturday, November 18, Viva La Musica hosts its final autumn Saturday trip to HD screenings of Live from the Met opera at the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara. “The Exterminating Angel” by British composer Thomas Ades is based on a famous surrealist movie, with Audrey Luna as Leticia Maynar and Amanda Echalaz as Lucia de Nobile.

Broadway HD
Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT), in affiliation with Broadway HD, presents screenings of “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand on Saturday, November 18, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 19, 3 p.m.
The play stars Kevin Kline, Jennifer Garner and Daniel Sunjata.
Written in 1897, the play is a fictionalization of the life of the real Cyrano de Bergerac. It opened in Paris that same year, with its first audience applauding for an hour after the curtain fell. Written entirely in verse, in rhyming couplets of 12 syllables per line, the play has been translated from the original French and performed many times, with Anthony Burgess’s 1970 English translation and adaptation used for this production. Light-hearted in nature, this work is full of frivolous pomp and overblown dialogue – sweet but surprisingly potent. And it goes down so easily, you’re drunk and misty-eyed before you know it.

The Chapala municipal cultural department invites the community to celebrate Dia del Musico Tuesday, November 21, 7 p.m. at the Central Cultural Antigua Presidencia in Chapala. Local musicians will perform and co-mingle at this event.
The Naked Stage
“Copenhagen” by Michael Frayn is the next production of The Naked Stage Readers Theatre, Friday though Sunday, November 24-26, 4 p.m.
Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg famously met at Bohr’s home in Copenhagen in 1941. They were two of the most brilliant physicists of the 20th century. Both of them had been awarded a Nobel Prize (Bohr in 1922 and Heisenberg in 1932), and they had collaborated on the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum physics. To this day, that set of ideas remains one of the leading ways of thinking about the strange and paradoxical behavior of atomic particles.
In 1941 Denmark was occupied by Hitler’s Third Reich. Bohr was Danish and Heisenberg was German, so from Bohr’s point of view Heisenberg was both a friend and an enemy. No one knows what they said to each other on that day in 1941. After the war, even they couldn’t agree on it.
This play imagines that fateful meeting. If you are concerned about the development of the atomic bomb, and wonder what might happen to our precious world, “Copenhagen” will stir your emotions and evoke your fears.

Bravo Theatre
“Trying,” by Canadian playwright Joanna Glass is the next production of Bravo Theatre.
Directed by Bernadette Jones, with Roger Larson and Allison Plamondon, the play is based on Glass’ experience during 1967-1968 when she worked for Francis Biddle at his home in Washington, D.C. Judge Biddle had been attorney general of the United States under Franklin Roosevelt. After the war, President Truman named him chief judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The play is about a young Canadian girl and an old Philadelphia aristocrat “trying” to understand each other in Biddle’s final year of his life.

Los Cantantes del Lago presemts “¡Viva Vivaldi!” with special guests, the Orquesta Filarmónica Infantil and the Coro de la Ribera de Chapala, Tuesday, December 5, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, December 6, 4 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera.
As well as Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” Los Cantantes del Lago and their guests will perform holiday pieces from around the world.
Timothy G. Ruff Welch, Los Cantantes’ musical director, has put together a diverse program that is fun, exhilarating, thoughtful and vibrant. The the Orquesta Filarmónica Infantil and the Coro de la Ribera de Chapala are local youth groups under the direction of Daniel Medeles.
