Bravo Theatre
“Trying,” by Canadian playwright Joanna Glass is the next production of Bravo Theatre.
Directed by Bernadette Jones, with Roger Larson and Allison Plamondon, the play is based on Glass’ experience during 1967-1968 when she worked for Francis Biddle at his home in Washington, D.C. Judge Biddle had been attorney general of the United States under Franklin Roosevelt. After the war, President Truman named him chief judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The play is about a young Canadian girl and an old Philadelphia aristocrat “trying” to understand each other in Biddle’s final year of his life.

The Naked Stage
“Copenhagen” by Michael Frayn, is the next production of The Naked Stage Readers Theatre, Friday through Sunday, November 24-26, 4 p.m.
Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg famously met at Bohr’s home in Copenhagen in 1941. They were two of the most brilliant physicists of the 20th century. Both had been awarded a Nobel Prize (Bohr in 1922 and Heisenberg in 1932), and they had collaborated on the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum physics. To this day, that set of ideas remains one of the leading ways of thinking about the strange and paradoxical behavior of atomic particles.
In 1941 Denmark was occupied by Hitler’s Third Reich. Bohr was Danish and Heisenberg was German, so from Bohr’s point of view Heisenberg was both a friend and an enemy. No one knows what they said to each other on that day in 1941. After the war, even they couldn’t agree on it.
This play imagines that fateful meeting. If you are concerned about the development of the atomic bomb, and wonder what might happen to our precious world, “Copenhagen” will stir your emotions and evoke your fears.

The Naked Stage is at Carretera 261 in Riberas del Pilar, across from the Catholic church and in front of the Baptist church. Parking is available in the parking lot of the Baptist church.
Exhibits
The collective exhibition “Entre Amigos” (Among Friends), featuring painting, photography, sculpture and cartoons by 19 artists, will open Saturday, November 25, 7 p.m. at the Fabrica de Arte Chapala, located at Av. Madero 228-A, next to Banamex.
Rabbit in the Moon Gallery presents a show of original prints, etchings and block prints by Juan Navarro, Luis Pinedo, Pat Apt, Xilotl and Jesus Lopez Vega. The opening is Saturday, December 2, 2-5 p.m. Ocampo 20, Ajijic.
The Lake Chapala Painting Guild presents watercolors, oils, acrylics and impressions at Galeria/Café La 133 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Saturday, December 9.
Drinks and canapes will be served from 4-6 p.m., as attendees listen to music by Yaeli and Paza Nuñez Arechar, and poetry and stories by members of the Ajijic Writers Group.
Dancing on the plaza
Ballet Folclorico Calpulli from the state of Puebla gives a free performance, Saturday, November 25, 8 p.m. on the plaza in Ajijic.
Orchestra bus trip
Viva La Musica sponsors a bus trip to the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra concert on Sunday, November 26 at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara. Tickets are available by calling Rosemary Keeling at 766-1801.
The Operatic Gala directed by Marco Parisotto features pieces from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bellini’s Norma, Puccini’s La Boheme and Turandot. Bus departs 10:30 a.m. Tickets for this concert are 450 pesos for members and 550 pesos for non-members.
Operation Smile benefit
Mexican divas, including Lupita Jimenez, Gaby Rizo, Lorena Aguilar and Paloma Rio, perform at the Auditorio de la Ribera in a benefit for Operation Smile, Saturday, December 2, 6 p.m. “Ojos Tapatios” will be accompanied by the Amaral Chorus and the International Viva Mexico Mariachi of Francisco Aguilar. Viva Vivaldi!
Los Cantantes del Lago presents “Viva Vivaldi!” Tuesday, December 5, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, December 6, 4 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera. The choir will be joined by the Orquesta Filarmónica Infantil and the Coro de la Ribera de Chapala, both under the direction of Daniel Medeles. As well as Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” Los Cantantes del Lago and their guests will perform holiday pieces from around the world. Timothy G. Ruff Welch, the choir’s musical director, has put together a diverse program that is fun, exhilarating, thoughtful and vibrant. Opera HD screening
Lakeside Little Theatre presents an HD screening of the live production of “Il Volo” with Plácido Domingo, in a “Notte Magica” Tribute to the Three Tenors, Saturday, December 2, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 3, 3 p.m.
After winning over the global public on their tour through Europe, the United States, Mexico and South America, Il Volo returned to Italy for a magical night of music, paying tribute to another famous trio, The Three Tenors. This trio of young Italian tenors, today’s operatic pop phenomenon, have delighted audiences in prestigious venues worldwide. Una Notte Magica was the name of the legendary concert performed in 1990 by three tenors – José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti – and 26 years later, Il Volo came to Florence to commemorate them.

Contemporary dance
The contemporary dance group from the Preparatoria Chapala (high school) performs at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Sunday, December 3, 5 p.m. Collaborating with Guadalajara band Cantoamerica, the dancers will combine dance moves to melodies from different regions of Latin America that focus on the moon and the lake. Fifteen musicians and a dozen dancers will bring “Espejo de Luna” to the stage. Tickets on sale at the Auditorio.
Fiesta P’urepecha
The Fiesta P’urepecha takes over the Ajijic plaza Friday, December 8 through Sunday, December 10. Craftspeople from 20 Michoacan pueblos will participate in a show and sale of folk art. All the crafts on display are handmade by the artists themselves. Several local products created by Ajijic artists and craftspeople will also be exhibited. The event is free and an excellent place to purchase holiday gifts. A pre-Hispanic ball game, regional dances, music and food will be part of the festivities.
Family affair
The Hermosillo family singers will perform a Christmas concert Thursday, December 7, 7 p.m. in a Viva La Musica Sponsored concert at the Auditorio de la Ribera. Antonio, Gaby, and their children Mariana, Lucia and Jorge will be joined by tenor Jose Fernando Rodriguez and present a program of choral and solo voices and violin pieces. Chorale
The Lake Chapala Chorale offers the community a Norman Rockwell Christmas program in December, titled “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” The Chorale’s first three concerts of the season are free (with donations accepted), and the last is a special dinner show and sing-along. Shows are: Friday, December 8, 5 p.m., at the Centro Cultural de Ajijic; Friday, December 15, 5 p.m., at the Little Chapel by the Lake; Saturday, December 16, 5 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church; Friday, December 22, 6 p.m., at La Bodega. Advance tickets for the final show, 250 pesos, available at Diane Pearl, include a delicious meat or meatless lasagna dinner, the concert, and a carols sing-along.
Black Strings
La Mision Restaurant hosts Black Strings, the father/son duo of Victor and Ignacio Garcia, for a benefit dinner-concert for Butterflies en Mexico on Tuesday, December 5. This charity works together with La Mision in Hacienda de la Labor, a village of 150 people, east of Chapala, to develop leadership and better the community. Doors open 4:30 p.m. for a no-host bar, dinner is at 6 pm. and the concert at 7:30 p.m. The menu is an appetizer, a choice of filet mignon or salmon, an unlimited dessert buffet and two glasses of wine for 700 pesos. Pre-hispanic roots
The music and dance group Corazon del Cielo will perform a Aztec and contemporary dances with fire and accompanied by pre-hispanic style instruments in a free presentation on the esplanade of the Centro Cultural Ajijic, Saturday, December 16, 7 p.m.
