Aunt & Uncle Jazz began as a duo between bass player Alejandro Castro and pianist and vocalist Ana Sandoval. As a quintet with Ronaldo Rivero on piano, Daniel Benitez on saxophone and Carlos Villegas on drums, they have sold out all of their shows in Guadalajara. Enjoy their dinner show, Friday, June 21. You get a choice of chicken Florentine with red rice and salad or pork tenderloin, smashed garlic potatoes and glazed carrots (by Abuelita). Dinner is at 6 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are 500 pesos with dinner, 300 for the show only.
Ladies Night, Friday, June 28, 7 p.m. features Cesar Ledon performing his summer sizzle numbers and Guadalajara’s hottest male entertainment will be strutting their stuff as well. Rock in San Antonio
Four rock bands will play at the San Antonio Tlayacapan plaza Friday, June 14, beginning 8 p.m. Charales-K, Guarache-Sat, Aztaveria and Lake of Death will all take the stage at the San PolaFest 2K19.
Film Aficionados
Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday, 2 p.m.
On June 20, “The boy who harnessed the wind” (2019, Malawi) will be screened. Set in Malawi, Africa, a farming village is struggling through a long drought. A 13-year-old boy from a poor family, who loves reading and building things, comes up with a proposal that may save their crops. Based on a true story. (108 minutes.)
Guitar concert
World-famous Peruvian guitarist Alfredo Muro will play a concert at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala, Friday, June 21, 7 p.m. Says New York Times bestselling author T.A. Barron: “He is from Peru, his wife from Chile and his music from heaven.”
On the docket is music by Agustin Barrios, Bach, A.C. Jobim, Piazzolla, Alfredo Montes, Sebastiao Tapajos and Muros’ own compositions. Hear Brazilian choro and samba, Argentine mela milonga and tango, Paraguayan guarania, Spanish classical and flamenco, jazz and more. Tickets, 150 pesos, are available at the cultural center.

Piano concerts
The Universidad de Guadalajara School of Music presents free piano recitals performed by promising music students, 7 p.m. each Thursday over the next few weeks at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala.
The schedule is: June 20, Johanna Gonzalez and Roberto Contreras and June 27, Susana Bueno.
Scholarship fund concert
The renowned CREM music school at Lakeside presents a concert to raise funds for music scholarships for local youth at the Presbyterian Church, Avenida San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar, Friday, June 21, 7 p.m. Tickets for this worthy event are 200 pesos.
Guitar classes
Jimmy Galloway, who will be playing every Monday at Perry’s Pizza, 5:30 to 8 p.m., is also offering free guitar classes to Mexican students. A class for beginners and intermediate students will be held Tuesday, June 25, 6 to 8 p.m. and a class for advanced students and also a focus on music gear will be held Tuesday, July 23, also 6 to 8 p.m.
Galloway teaches at the Atlanta Institute of Music in Georgia. Donations will be given to a local charity focusing on children, according to Perry. Printouts for interested students are available at Perry’s.
The Bare Stage Theatre
“A funny, fast paced story about camaraderie, confessions and competition” is what “The Ladies Foursome” by Norm Foster brings to the stage.
The day after their friend Catherine’s funeral, Margot, Tate and Connie gather for a round of golf in honor of their recently departed fourth. At the golf course they are joined by another woman, an old friend of Catherine’s they’d never met. Over the course of 18 holes, secrets and confessions unravel as the women discuss love, sex, children and everything in between.
Directed by Don Chaloner, the cast comprises Peggy Chilton, Anne Drake, Kathleen Morris and Lila Wells. Curtains rise 4 p.m. Show dates:

LCS Music Fest
Thomas Banks and Friends and the Gargamel Covers Band will play at the Lake Chapala Society Music Fest, Saturday, July 6, 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Food will be supplied by The Smoke House and La Pacena and ice cream from HelaBok. Cash bars with wine, beer and soft drinks, as well as LCS’ famous margaritas, will be available. Come and dance the day away.
Advance sale tickets are 150 pesos for LCS members, 200 for non-members and 250 pesos at the gate on the day of the event.
Theater buffs
Lakeside Little Theatre’s board of directors is looking for member volunteers to serve on the Play Reading Committee, which is responsible for selecting and recommending to the board the plays to be produced in Season 56 (2020-2021).
