Lakeside Little Theatre presents its second Ajijic Reader’s Theatre (ART) show, “Moonlight and Magnolias” By Ron Hutchinson, Thursday to Saturday, October 16, 17, and 18.
Suki O’Brien directs the cast of Peter Luciano, Mark Donaldson, Fred Koesling, Randy Warren and Rosann Balbontin in this riotous farce that’s full of laughter.
“Moonlight and Magnolias” tells the behind-the-scenes story of “Gone with the Wind,” as seen through the eyes of producer David O. Selznick, director Victor Fleming and writer Ben Hecht, who set about creating one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of all time. Hutchinson’s play, based on historical events, is written as farce, but the characters also deal with serious questions about race and the fragile position of Jewish executives in Hollywood.
Covid-19 precautions will be in place for all performances, with open-air seating in LLT’s Angel Terrace and seating for approximately 40 individuals, while maintaining a minimum of six feet social distancing. All shows are matinees at 4 p.m.

Big Band
After many months trying to put together a big band orchestra, local fans have made it happen.
The 13 members of Amigos Big Band have been sidelined since early March. Some have raised chickens, worked as Uber drivers, etcetera.
The musicians are from Chapala, Jocotepec, Guadalajara and Tonala. Seven are expats, the rest are Mexicans. They have been in rehearsals since July 29 and are raring to go. Their repertoire features jazz, swing and contemporary classics, such as “All of Me,” “Cry me a River,” “Guantanamera,” “In the Mood,” and “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
Along with the musicians, vocalists Wanda, Elmo and Karen will perform at their debut dinner dance Wednesday, October 14, 4-6 p.m. at Mama’s Musical Bar.
This is a social distancing event with only four people to a table and introducing “Bubble Dancing,” where you will be asked to dance close to your table. Only a few couples will be allowed on the dance floor. This will be strictly enforced by a team of volunteers who will be monitoring the floor at all times.
There will be a door prize. and later a 50/50 draw, so the band can start raising money for future shows.
The dinner menu is a choice of Mama’s meat loaf or chicken cordon bleu, both served with mashed and veggies or an arugula salad with strawberries.

LLT holds auditions
Lakeside Little Theatre’s ART will hold auditions for “Lunenburg,” a comedy drama by Norm Foster, Thursday, October 8, 10 a.m. Registration begins 9:30 a.m. on the Terrace. Covid-19 precautions will be in place. One man and two women are needed for this subtle comedy about healing and self-understanding that envelops you in its warmth.
