Art exhibit

Artist Isabel DeBlanc will exhibit a selection of her nudes at Casa del Sol Inn, with an opening set for Friday, March 12, 4 to 6 p.m. Wine will be served and dinner is available afterwards. Reservations required. Javier Mina 7, Ajijic, 333-964-5320.

DeBlanc will donate all the proceeds from any sales to Health Outreach for Women (H.O.W.), a mobile maternal health program for women that has been servicing Chapala barrios for six years. It is an affiliate of the Tepehua Centro Comunitario. The two organizations share the same building. H.O.W. is an offshoot of the Tepehua Maternal Health Program and services some 12 to 13 neighborhoods every month. H.O.W’s board is independent from Tepehua’s and is run entirely separately, with its own source of support.

H.O.W. has a small ambulance bus, fitted as a maternal unit for the isolated villages whose residents have no resources to travel the two or three hours it would take by bus to get to Tepehua’s Medical facilities. The bus is specially designed for pre- and postnatal care and monthly STD and cancer check-ups. Like the Tepehua Centro Communitario, H.O.W has no affiliation with federal, state or local governments or houses of religion, and is strictly sponsored by the private sector.
