Magic night
Author and musician James Twyman will perform his “magical” one-man Cat Stevens review at Casa del Sol in Ajijic on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27.
“Cat Stevens toured with a stage magician in the 1970s,” Twyman explains. “His ‘Magikat’ album was released in 1976 and he wanted people to experience the music in a new way. I’ve loved both Cat Stevens and magic my entire life so I thought I’d bring the two together once again.”
Twyman is the author of 18 books including the New York Times bestseller “The Moses Code,” and he’s known around the world as the Peace Troubadour for his concerts in countries like Iraq, Bosnia, Israel and many other war torn areas. He’s made the Lakeside area his home for over seven years and founded the Namaste LakeChapala community in Ajijic in 2017.
“Performing in war-torn areas for so many years was an incredible experience,” he said. “But now it’s time to do something a bit more light-hearted. I can remember the first time I heard a Cat Stevens’ song, I think it was ‘Peace Train,’ I was hooked and have followed his career ever since. Combining his music with stage illusions may sound unusual but they actually go together quite well. My intention is to provide a night of entertainment that people will never forget.”
The performance begins with a full dinner at Casa del Sol with Twyman moving from table to table doing sleight-of-hand and close-up magic. Then the show begins, making it a full evening. The cost of the event is 625 pesos and includes the first drink.

Spring fling fiesta
La Bella Vida has been serving Ajijic since 2008 with its Beautiful Things Boutique, the Healing Arts Studio and the Heart of Ajijic promotional service. It has now brought together a group of artists and creators of special items for its Spring Fling Fiesta, Saturday, March 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The store is located at Constitucion 6, just a stone’s throw from the main artery heading toward the Malecon. They are opening their garden with artists, live music by Louie Pavao, refreshments and a possible live fairy visit.
Offerings with a variety of special discounts include casual clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and accessories; for your home: glass, pewter, lamps, wall art, garden plants and decorations. Treasures from around the world are available, but La Bella Vida specializes in hand-crafted creations from local artisans. English-language cards and party decorations are also on display.
Artists at the event include clothing designer Catherine Stephenson, jewelry designer Linda Olsen, artist Diane Brisse, kimono maker Cynthia DuBois, mixed media artist Melody Peterson, Yucatan guayabera maker Emelia Lara, botanical impressionist Valentina Perez, leather maestro Raul Gonzalez, canyon hat purveyor Francisco, and florist Ana Ramos.

LLT auditions
Ajijic Readers Theatre (ART) at Lakeside Little Theatre will hold auditions for “Skylight” by David Hare, Thursday, March 25. Director Collette Clavadetscher is looking for two men and one woman. Registration is at 10 a.m., and auditions are from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Lakeside Little Theatre’s Angel Terrace. All Covid-19 protocols will be in place.
This 1995 drama pits two faces of Great Britain scarred by Margaret Thatcher against each other. “Skylight” is a complex, thought-provoking, and remarkably timeless drama about power, politics and passion.
Show dates are April 23, 24 and 25, 2021. All shows are at 4 p.m.
