Concerts in the Park

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Concerts in the Park series presents Dwight Bake with a Motown tribute Sunday, January 23. Debby Holiday will give a Tina Turner tribute, Sunday, February 13, and Branden and James will perform February 20. All three concerts are at 2:30 and 5 p.m.  In accordance with new Jalisco state Covid protocols, a proof of vaccination certificate or a PCR test with negative results within the last 48 hours must be presented to attend the concerts. Tickets are available at the LCS office or via the LCS website.

Bare Stage Theatre

Bare Stage Theatre’s next performance is “The Gossip of Goderich” by Kevin Riordan, January 28 to 30.

This romantic comedy centers on an older couple coming to terms with their aging marriage, along with a couple of side romances. It’s a laugh a minute. The small-town gossiping brings home the fun and the craziness of life in a small town.

Bare Stage Theatre is at Carretera Chapala-Ajijic 261 on the mountain side in Riberas del Pilar, across from the Catholic church. Audience limited in size. All Covid-19 protocols are in place and masks are mandatory. Proof of vaccination or a PCR test within the 48 hours before the show are necessary to attend.

National Theatre

“The Lehman Trilogy,” a National Theatre production of Ben Power’s English version of Stefano Massini’s vast and poetic play, will be screened at LLT’s Playhouse January 29 and 30, 4 p.m. Sam Mendes directs Simon Russell Beal, Adam Godley and Ben Miles in this story of a family and company that changed the world, told in three parts on a single evening. Tickets, 250 pesos, are available online at lakesidelittltheatre.com and in the box office one hour before curtain and Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, the week before the show. Patrons must wear masks properly at all times in the lobby and auditorium.

Women’s Art Challenge

The opening reception for the First Annual San Juan Cosalá Invitational Women’s Art Challenge will be held at the Studio Gallery of Isidro Xilonsochitl at Porfirio Diaz 120 in San Juan Cosalá (one-half block west of Viva Mexico) Saturday, January 22, 5-8 p.m. In the challenge, ten women were given identical freestanding retablo boxes to transform however they wish. Cash prizes will go to two artists for “Best of Show” and “Most Original.” There will be music and refreshments and the retablo boxes will be for sale.
