Lakeside mariachi galas
The rousing sounds of Mexico’s emblematic musical genre will be in the forefront during the 2022 Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería taking place August 25 through September 4.
Chapala and Jocotepec have been selected as two of the provincial venues included on this year’s concert schedule.
Chapala will be the first place outside the Guadalajara metro area to host a gala show, set for Friday, August 26, 7 p.m., at the waterfront Malecón. The concert at Jocotepec’s Malecón follows on Monday, August 29, also at 7 p.m. Both events are open to the public free of charge.
Musicians from the United States, Columbia, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Israel, as well as Mexico, are tuned up to take part in the mariachi fest.

BRAVO! acting classes
Bernadette Jones will offer acting classes at the BRAVO! Theatre beginning August 30 through the first week of October. Two groups with up to eight participants in each are offered: Tuesdays, noon to 2:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first two classes will be to enhance acting skills through monologue work. The last four classes will focus on scene study. Through this work, each actor will gain in confidence and begin to “own the role” on their terms, while developing the necessary skills for any future acting challenge.
Jones brings a wealth of experience to these classes, drawing from her over 35 years directing, teaching and coaching in the professional theatre and film world.
All proceeds from this workshop will go to support the BRAVO Theatre and its productions. A total of 15 hours of instruction is priced at 2,400 pesos. Slim Miller has changed his band’s name from The Millers to The Bourbon Street Boys and is once again playing southern tinged blues at Casa Domenech, Saturday, August 20, 6 p.m.
LLT Auditions
Dave McIntosh directs “Twelfth Night” by Shakespeare, and is holding auditions Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and auditions at 10 a.m., on the LLT terrace.
One of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, “Twelfth Night” is a fast-paced comedy with several interwoven plots of romance, mistaken identities and practical jokes.
