Fine Arts Guild

The Lake Chapala Fine Artists Guild holds the first art collective exhibition at the newly renovated auditorium in Ajijic, Friday, March 3, 2 to 6 p.m., with a special “Meet the Artists” event from 3 to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, March 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

pg17aThe event is being held at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera, Carretera 168, Ajijic. It is on the south side (lake side) of the street, and has a huge brick facade.

At the Guild’s exhibitions you’ll see only fine art by established, professional artists. The Guild is purposely kept small, with membership by invitation only. New artists who want to join are vetted for the quality of their work. Admission is free, and there’s ample parking. More information at FineArtChapala.com.

Claudia Nery exhibit

Claudia Nery exhibits her oil paintings, beginning with an opening Saturday, March 4, 4 to 6 p.m. at Casa del Sol Inn, Javier Mina 7, Ajijic. Her imagined portraits are layered with abstract and geometric patterns that add depth and dimension to the characters she is depicting.

Ajijic Museo de Arte

• The Ajijic Museo de Arte (AMA) opens a new exhibition Sunday March 5, 3 p.m.

• Plein-air artist Cynthia Du Bois opens her exhibition “Villages and Landscapes” March 17, 3 p.m.

• “Our Italian Hill towns,” an exhibit of watercolors by Elaine Frenett and Maloy Murdock, opens March 31, 3 p.m.

Jocotepec

Photographers Daniela Romero, Ruben Reynoso and Miguel Ramirez present three distinct exhibitions focused on Jocotepec crafts people on the second floor of the Casa de Cultura Jose Vaca Flores, Hidalgo Sur 38 in the center of Jocotepec.

Kooky criters

Sidni Monroe presents her “Kooky Critters” collection of papier-mache sculptures at Casa Linda Restaurant, Rio Bravo 7, in West Ajijic, throughout March. From recognizable friends to fanciful creatures, each of the whimsical characters are constructed of recycled household materials. A portion of the proceeds will go toward Pet Food Bank Lakeside.

Art Fair

The LCS Art Fair, featuring more than 70 local artists and artisans, will be held on two days this month, Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Don’t miss this last show of the season. Free admission. Café open both days.

A Celebration of Dance Lakeside presents a variety of exciting dances Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12, at Mama’s Musical Bar, Gonzalez Gallo 86B in San Antonio Tlaycapan. Doors open 5:30 p.m., show time is 6 p.m.

Flamenco

A Tablao Flamenco night will be held at the Cochera Cultural Saturday, March 11, 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate the return of the great dancer Paulina Ruiz, after her eight-month scholarship in Brazil. This artistic residency for the improvement and interpretation of flamenco has been guided by internationally renowned artists. Paulina will dance with her brother Mario Ruiz, a regular dancer at the Cochera Cultural.

British Theatre

Enjoy the best of British theater on a big screen via National Theatre Live at Lakeside Little Theatre. “Straight Line Crazy,” a new play by David Hare and directed by Nicholas Hytner will be screened Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12, 4 p.m.

The play is a searing social critique full of punchy dialogue and exceptional acting from Ralph Fiennes, who leads the cast in Hare’s blazing account of the most powerful man in New York, a master manipulator whose legacy changed the city forever.

Cabaret

The Ajijic Cabaret Troupe presents its first show, Sunday, April 2, 7:30 p.m. at El BarCo, as a benefit for Niños Incapacitados. Doors open 5 p.m., limited menu until 6:45 p.m., full bar service.
