Folkloric festival
Ballet folklorico groups will take to stages on the Chapala Plaza and Malecon this weekend to celebrate their art. Saturday, November 18, beginning 6 p.m., groups will perform for 20 minutes at the main plaza.
At 9:30 p.m., the Son de la Negra and Jarabe Tapatio will close the evening.
Sunday, November 19, the same program, with 10-minute presentations of each group, begins at noon on the Chapala Malecon. The Son de Negra and Jarabe Tapatio will perform at 1:30 p.m.
The evening program will be similar to Saturday’s, but on the Malecon.

• La Tiendita de Arte Los Ojos del Tiempo of Monica Cardenas on the Plaza in San Antonio invites you to the opening of an art show of works by Tapatio artist Emilio Alejandro Florez Saturday, November 18, 4 to 7 p.m.
• The Yearly Art Show of artists from Ajijic and Lakeside at the Centro Cultural Ajijic opens Saturday, November 18, 5 p.m.

Live Music
• Sunday, November 19, 12:30 p.m., the Museo Centro Cultural González Gallo in Chapala presents two talented musicians in concert: Elena Ávila on the piano and Angélica Villa on the flute. Their program will feature pieces by Schumann, Debussy, Sibelius, Liszt, Heggie, Poulenc and Bach. Admission is free.
• Las Palmas restaurant at Libramiento 96 in San Antonio Tlayacapan will host Stan Foster’s Jimmy Buffet celebration Wednesday, November 22, 6:30 p.m. Cover is 150 pesos.
• The Iron Horse Bar and grill will host Soul Sacrifice, a Carlos Santana tribute band, Saturday, Deceember 9, 5:30 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Tiopa Banextli Health Clinic. 250 pesos cover.
Comic opera
The first-ever live opera performance presented entirely by local talent is coming to the Centro para la Cultura y las Arts de la Ribera auditorium for two shows Thursday, November 23, 5 p.m., and Friday, November 24, 6 p.m.
The comic operetta titled “La Maravillosa Idea del Señor Cobalstain,” staged by the Centro Regional de Estudios Musiciales (CREM), is an adaptation of “The Idea,” an early work by English composer Gustav Holst. The program features 50 artists on stage, comprised of the CREM Chamber Orchestra, members of the adult and children’s choir and soloists. Emmanuel Medeles heads the musical direction, with Juan Carlos Villanueva in charge of stage direction.
Tickets, general admission 280 pesos, 180 pesos for children, students and teachers, are available at the box office, Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voces del Lago
New community chorus, Las Voces del Lago, 60 singers led by director Ken Turner and accompanied by Don Beaudreau, will give a concert at a holiday show, “Season of Light,” performing works of Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday choral music. Also performing will be “Nova Lux” consisting of 16 outstanding choral singers who perform a variety of secular and sacred pieces, both accompanied and a cappella.
The concert is Thursday, to Sunday, November 30, December 1 and 2, at 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Flamenco
“Danzaora, Mujer Tierra, Flamenco Experimental” is a captivating blend of tradition and experimentation crafted by Marien Luevano presented Sunday, December 23, 5:30 p.m. at La Cochera Cultural.
Inspired by Mexican dance rituals and female deities, the performance aspires to be a prayer in motion, forging connections between dance and music—a point of connection.
The distinctive feature of this project lies in the fusion of traditional flamenco elements with modern sounds of saxophone, electric bass, and flamenco cajón, offering a thrilling experience, establishing a connection between the ancient and the contemporary.
In “Danzaora,” Marien Luevano weaves a visual and auditory narrative, transporting the audience to a realm where tradition and innovation harmoniously intertwine. This is an artistic expression celebrating diversity, creativity and human connection through the mediums of dance and music.
Luevano collaborates with in-house artists Emilia Gálvez on the cajón, Gilberto Ríos on bass and Eleazar Soto on saxophone.

Tidings and Tinsel
Bravo Theatre will present a musical ride through the holidays under the direction of Timothy G. Ruff Welch and Jayme Littlejohn on December 10, 13 and 17 at 4 p.m. and December 12 at 7 p.m. Performers include Janeene Williams, Tim Johnson, Tonantzin Aragon, Oscar Addiel, Amy Stackhouse, Wanda White and Jayme Littlejohn.
