Ajijic Museo de Arte

Local artists Rigoberto Navarro and Efrén González have paired up for a new exhibit celebrating the fourth anniversary of the Ajijic Museo de Arte (AMA).

 

Navarro features a diverse collection of sculptures carved from stone and wood.

González presents some of his most recent paintings, including a half dozen small landscapes he produced while stranded at the Springfield, Missouri airport awaiting his flight home after participating as a guest artist at the 13th annual Plein Air Convention & Expo.

The new exhibit also showcases the rotation of works from the entire of AMA collection representing dozens of Mexican and foreign artists with creative connections to the lakeshore region.

AMA is located at Calle Flores Magón 3, West Ajijic, open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dance

Zenith Dance Factory presents Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with invited soloists Mariana Hermosillo and Brenda Galvan, and a live orchestra Saturday, June 6, 7 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera. Tickets at boletia.com.

• The Elizze full band, with Chris Cuevas, Benjamin Guerra, Kevin Real and Isael Angulo, perform at 5 p.m. at Restaurant 4 Sentido. Cover: 150 pesos.

• Old Souls Band with Jimmy Baquiero on fiddle, 6 p.m. at Jorge’s Place in West Ajijic.

SATURDAY

• As part of the Jazz Lakeside series, a tribute concert to Ornette Coleman is planned for June 6, 3 p.m. at Casa del Arte, Avenida del Pilar 8A in Riberas del Pilar. The musicians are Alain Cano on sax, Juan Castañon on guitar, Itzam Cano on bass and Miguel Soto on drums. Tickets are 500 pesos. RSVP: 333-130-1303.

• WO Band headline a Pride Party, 7:30 p.m. at Cola de Gallo in Ajijic. A raffle ticket for each drink purchased will enter a 1,000-peso bar credit raffle.

SUNDAY

• Austrian-American pianist Christian Wachter and Tapatio flautist Jorge Hermosillo give a free concert at 12:30 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo. The program includes Bach, Chopin and Prokofiev.

• Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez performs at the Ajijic Auditorio at the CCAR, Friday, June 12, 7:30 p.m. Tickets, 650 pesos presale, 750 pesos at the door, can be reserved at 332-353-5203.

• Italian sax artist Michele Tino performs with a quintet at the 3rd Cielo Internacional de Jazz, Saturday, June 13 at the Hotel Real de Chapala. Presale 350 pesos, at the door 500 pesos. Available via Stripe.

Exhibits

• Carla Venegas opens an exhibition Friday, June 12, 5 p.m. at TNT Bar, Jardin 2A in Ajijic. Live music and hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

• Chapala-based textile artist Synthia David’s first local show, “Light Up Your Life,” featuring hand-painted silk batik lamps (ArtLites), handcrafted handbags and scarves, is up at Casa del Sol Inn.

• Tapatio artist Diego Reynoso’s photographic exhibit “La Marca del Agua, Capas de un Desastre,” that focuses on the environment, is up at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera, open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Up through June 28.

Children’s art sale

The Efrén González Children’s Art Program presents a Children’s Art Sale Friday, June 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Friday Art Market in La Huerta, West Ajijic (same location as the Tuesday Market).

Discover a fresh selection of art cards featuring artwork not shown at previous monthly sales.

All cards are high-quality reproductions of original works by the children in the program. A limited selection of original artwork will also be available.

Fifty percent of all proceeds go directly to the young artists.

BRAVO! auditions

The BRAVO! is holding auditions for its Third Annual 10-Minute Play Festival and other shows for Season Three. Auditions are June 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the air-conditioned BRAVO Theater, Hidalgo 441, Riberas del Pilar, just west of S&S Auto.

Performances will be September 16-20.  A wide range of roles is open at the auditions, for up to eight short plays and up to five directors. Experienced actors and newcomers welcome. Comedy at The BRAVO!

Pirates and monsters and poodles, oh my!  That’s what you’ll laugh at when Skitz-O-Funnia, Lakeside’s only sketch comedy troupe, stages a benefit show for The BRAVO! Theatre. Inspired by Chicago’s Second City comedy, Skitz-o-Funnia performs original sketches with local actors.

Shows are on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27 at 4 p.m. The bar will be open an hour beforehand and at intermission.
