Being our brothers’ keepers

The creeping proximity of the Corona virus scourge has instilled uncertainty and fear in the hearts of many of our friends and neighbors.

pg12While some have holed up behind their walls, fixated on the horrifying news played on their electronic devices, it is truly heart-warming to see how many others have stepped out of the bubble to lend support to less fortunate souls living around them.

Many foreign-born retirees and some among the area’s middle to upper working class were only vaguely aware of how many folks live on the edge, barely scrapping by to sustain their families. Restrictions put on commercial activity intended to curtail the spread of Covid-19 has not only put hundreds of already impoverished into more dire circumstances, but also brought on survival struggles for hundreds more who have lost their jobs or seen their income diminish radically.
