A realistic restaurant review: Halley’s Hideaway, fine dining enhanced by clean tablecloths

Often, folks are driven to read reviews of restaurants before trying them out. But many reviews are too polite and sanitized and consequently insignificant as advice, such as water being served without asking is in bold type as a special treat.

Many people’s reviews could be more realistic, given the right mood and maybe indigestion that stops at the knees. Take Tom and Clara and their Trip Advisor review copied below:

My lovely wife and I and a close couple we often dine with were just looking for a casual dinner out or a night free from cooking and conversations held by phone text.

We all agreed on what was described as ‘the cozy setting and atmosphere of an evening at Halley’s Hideaway, which is easy to find. The hand-crafted cursive sign, Halley’s Hideaway, hangs on a tree outside, just over-hanging garbage bags hooked to the tree for pick-up.

We’d never been there before, so we were excited. The word “hideaway’” conjures up a dreamlike setting: remote, discrete, off-track, lamp-lit with castle-keep stone walls and suave whispered welcomes – a gustatory adventure intended to be photoshot and shared.

That wasn’t Halley’s.
