Junkers
The Automovil Guadalajara club of classic car enthusiasts is holding an exhibition of antique vehicles at the Minerva glorieta on Saturday, July 28.
The exhibition takes place from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and the traffic circle will be closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organizers will be collecting donations in aid of a charity organization affiliated with the event. Their aim is to be able to lay a complete ring of 10-peso coins around the Minerva in order to raise a total of 350,000 pesos for the charity.
A horse’s job is never done
Five of the horses retired from work pulling Guadalajara’s famous calandrias (carriages) will take on new duties working with children with Down Syndrome and other paralysis problems in a Family Development Agency (DIF) equine therapy program.
The horses were saved from the slaughterhouse by an agreement worked out between the DIF and the calandria drivers. The Lienzo Charro in front of Parque Agua Azul has offered their space for the therapy sessions until a space within the park is equipped for the therapy. The University of Guadalajara has offered the calandria drivers to replace the retired horses with younger and stronger steeds.
Bishop retires
Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara Rafel Martinez Sainz has retired according to the Vatican Press Office. Martinez Sainz, 77, is retiring due to his age. He was ordained as the Archdiocese auxiliary bishop on July 16, 2002. He is a native of Arandas, Jalisco.
Tlajomulco bus
The TUR bus line is once again providing a service to Tlajomulco residents, having dropped the service last February due to a legal problem. The route runs from Colonia Benito Juarez in Guadalajara (at the junction of the Periferico and Avenida Colon near the southern terminus of the Tren Ligero line one) to Colonia La Providencia in Tlajomulco (also passing through Tlajomulco neighborhoods of La Noria, Los Eucaliptos and the municipal seat).
Sunday theater matinees
The small Auditorio del Angel Theater offers plays for the little ones this Sunday at 11:30 and 1:30 p.m. This Sunday the tale of a young girl masquerading as a samurai warrior in “Mulan” is presented.
Interacting directly with the audience are eight young theater students under the direction of Alejandro Ruiz Velazco, a former professor of acting at the Universidad Panamericana. Tickets are 70 pesos and the popcorn is free.
The theater is located on the ground floor of the Plaza del Angel, corner of Lopez Mateos and Cubilete in Colonia Chapalita. Tel. 3121-0692. In August and September Cinderella will be featured in a single matinee held at 1 p.m.
