Award for Consulate

On February 21, during the opening of the XV International Congress on Advances in Medicine at Expo Guadalajara, U.S. Consul General Susan K. Abeyta accepted the Fray Antonio Alcalde Award on behalf of the Consulate.

The award was presented by the University of Guadalajara and the Guadalajara Hospital Civil in recognition of the Consulate’s continuing support and cooperation in strengthening the hospital’s institutional mission in benefiting the most vulnerable citizens of Jalisco and western Mexico.

Retail trade show

The 29th annual ANTAD retail trade show – the largest and most prestigious of its kind in Latin America – comes to Expo Guadalajara next week, showcasing over 1,800 exhibitors seeking to make new business connections.

Organized by the National Retailers Association of Mexico, Expo ANTAD draws 30,000 buyers and importers representing major supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and retail outlets. This three-day event brings together retail store chains with companies that want to be or are their suppliers, many of them foreign.

It is estimated that the Mexican retail sector will grow by 43 percent over the next five years, which offers huge financial opportunities for U.S. and European firms that have suffered during the recent recession. This year, UKTI (United Kingdom Trade and Investment) will be participating at ANTAD for the first time.

Expo ANTAD runs from March 13 to 15. For more information and how to register, go to www.expoantad.net/expo2013.

Expo Guadalajara is located at Av. Mariano Otero 1499, at the corner of Av. de las Rosas.
