Book Fair

The Fifth Used and Antique Book Fair (Feria del Libro Usado y Antiguo) takes place amid the exterior arches surrounding the Guadalajara Municipal Palace between Friday, November 7 and Sunday, November 16.

Antiquarian booksellers and collectors will set up their tables outside the building each day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The Palacio Municipal is located in the city center at Hidalgo 400, to one side of the Metropolitan Cathedral.Amsoc events

On Saturday, November 8 the American Society (Amsoc) is offering an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with a cup of coffee for 30 pesos. Breakfast is from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Everyone is welcome.

Amsoc’s annual election for board members begins as of Monday, November 10. Final voting and the general assembly are set for Saturday, November 29, 10 a.m.

On Thursday, November 13 a hot lunch is offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. after which members and guests can enjoy card or board games. Menu: spinach soup, tuna salad and rice pudding.

On Thursday, November 27 Amsoc puts on its impressive Thanksgiving dinner. Only 110 tickets are available, so stop in and get yours soon. Reservations must be made by Monday, November 24. Members pay 200 pesos, guests 220 pesos and children under 12 100 pesos.

Colomos Park

Nighttime tours in the Bosque Los Colomos are scheduled each Thursday in November at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Normally closed to the public after dark, this delightful park takes on a charming character all of its own after sundown.

Tickets for the tours cost 70 pesos and can be purchased at the park entrance on Calle El Chaco during regular park hours (6 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Call (33) 1811-1957 for more information.

Abundant with eucalyptus trees and smooth paths, the Colomos Park is perfect for running, walking and relaxing. It is acclaimed for its delightful Japanese garden donated by the city of Kyoto, as well as the newer Jardin Portland, a gathering space focused on environmental sustainability. The project is spearheaded by the Jardin Portland Foundation that brings together the people of Portland, Oregon, with international partners to share their knowledge.

Entry to the park is five pesos. Parking on weekdays costs five pesos for the first two hours and five pesos an hour after that. On weekends and public holidays, the cost is five pesos all day.
