Producer’s Fair
Dozens of vendors will set up shop at the next edition of the Feria de Productores (Producer’s Fair) on Sunday, April 19 at the Lions Club (Club de Leones), just off Avenida Tepeyac.
The event is organized by Circulo de Produccion, a collective of small, local producers of organic, natural and eco-friendly products, who sell directly to the public at tianguis, farmer’s markets or through small independent health stores.
Many of the vendors also sell at the weekly farmer’s markets in the Lake Chapala area.
An antidote to industrial food production, the collective tries to build connections between producers and consumers through educational programs, including workshops and visits to the countryside.
The fair will also feature gourmet food and crafts, and include an art display, musical presentations and children’s workshops. Hours are 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Entry is 15 pesos, 10 pesos for children.
The Club de Leones is at Av. de los Leones 75, Fracc. Tepeyac Casino, Zapopan.

Cemetry tours
The recently renovated historic Belen Cemetery in downtown Guadalajara is offering day and night tours to visitors interested in hearing the legends and history of this mysterious, iconic landmark.
Day tours are offered from Tuesday to Saturday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets cost 24 pesos. Students and teachers with identification are charged 12 pesos. Over 60’s and disabled people are given free entry. Camera use in the photogenic graveyard is charged at 65 pesos.
Night tours that include “ghostly tales” are run Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8.30 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. Tickets cost 65 pesos.
Tickets are sold in the cemetery office on Calle Belen 684. Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
English Chruch Fellowship
Pastor Ray De Lange speaks to members of English Fellowship at the church’s Good Friday morning celebration at Parque Metropolitano April 3. ‘According to the gospel of Mark, Jesus was hung up on the cross, crucified, at 9 a.m. That’s the time our worship service began,’ said De Lange. ‘We sang, heard messages on the seven statements Jesus made from the cross, prayed, and ended with a light breakfast. Then many of us went on to enjoy the playground equipment.’
Easter bonnet contest
Sue Priddy awards first prize to Mari Jose Rios, winner of the ‘Easter bonnet’ contest, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Guadalajara April 5. The contest was conceived in honor of St. Mark’s parishioner Joan Forsyth, who died in 2014. ‘Joan knew that Easter was the perfect time for a beautiful hat,’ said Priddy.
Migrant's Stations of the Cross
Migrants and volunteers carry Central American flags along the railway tracks in Guadalajara during a Stations of the Cross commemoration on Good Friday. The event was organized by the charity FM4, which provides support to migrants passing through the metropolitan area on their way to the United States. An additional aim of the procession was to raise awareness of the difficult and insecure nature of the journey.
