Grito in Zapopan

An alternative to Grito night celebrations in downtown Guadalajara (see page 3) is the Plaza de las Americas facing the Basilica in Zapopan Centro.  Revelers will pack the plaza on Tuesday, September 15, when the entertainment starts at 6:30 p.m., running through to 1:30 a.m. Banda, mariachi, ballet folklorico, a circus and various other performers will keep the crowd hopping until the wee hours. Driving and parking may be difficult in the area due to the Tren Ligero construction, so go early to find a spot or take a cab. Another option is the Glorieta Chapalita, where the neighborhood association pulls out the stops for a more homey Grito bash. Cars will be banned from the roundabout, so there will be no traffic worries for pedestrians. Food booths will start to set up from early evening. The fun continues well past midnight.
