Tata schedules charity runs

Tata Consultancy Services, widely known for its IT services, consulting and business solutions for global businesses, is organizing the first local TCS RUN - 2015, to be held on Saturday, November 21.

The Run starts at 8 a.m. at the Polideportivo Metropolitano Zapopan next to the Parque Metropolitano. The categories include 10-and 5-kilometer runs, or a 3-km walk. Registrations are open at www.vibasolutions.com.mx for a cost of 250 pesos (plus banking fee).

Registrations will be donated to the ”Mi Gran Esperanza” foundation, whose mission is to provide material, financial, psychological, spiritual and health assistance to children suffering from cancer and their families. Tata Consultancy Services Mexico will donate the same amount collected to support the mission.

Celebrating World Vegan Day

World Vegan Day will be celebrated at the Eco Impacta tianguis on Sunday, November 1 with a range of tempting products, including vegan hamburgers, tacos, cakes, cheese and more.  Eco Impacta is held at Avenida Chapultepec 480, from 10 a.m.  World Vegan Day was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then president of The Vegan Society in the United Kingdom to commemorate its 50th anniversary.  It was relaunched in 2014 to mark the 70th anniversary of the terms “vegan” and “veganism.”

Day of the Dead at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Anglican Church will hold a Day of the Dead party Sunday, November 1, at the church in Colonia Monraz, Guadalajara, near the medical school of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. At noon, assistant priest Father Ramon Rios will say a special Mass in Spanish in the chapel, followed at about 1:30 p.m. by a party in the garden and parish hall. The festivities include a DOD altar and a dinner consisting of traditional Mexican food, available for a nominal donation. Everyone is invited, said Father Rios.

Also in the spirit of Day of the Dead, the Rev. Dr. Jim Priddy will lead a 4 p.m. service the following Sunday, November 8, dedicating the small cemetery at St. Mark’s — the Peace Garden — to the memory of former Bishop Melchor Saucedo, who died in early 2014 and whose ashes are interred at St. Mark’s. Bishop Mel, as he was affectionately known, was a force extraordinaire in the growth of the Anglican Church in Mexico. The service will be followed by traditional Mexican refreshments.

Day of the Dead crafts fair

Those in search of materials to create Day of the Dead altars (on November 1 and 2) should head no further than the Feria del Carton y del Juguete (toys and paper crafts fair) in downtown Guadalajara’s Parque Morelos. Here you will find all the items needed to construct a typical Day of the Dead altar, as well as amusing and ghoulish toys, souvenirs and foods connected with this unique Mexican holiday honoring departed souls. The Morelos Park is located at the corner of the Calzada Independencia and Juan Manuel. The fair will be extra busy of Day of the Dead, November 2. It’s worth a look.
