Book fans meet at Amsoc

Lovers of literature at the American Society (Amsoc) are meeting on the third Thursday of each month (usually) to discuss books and “have a barrel of fun,” says member Marcia Gran.

Books chosen for discussion at the Amsoc Book Club cover a variety of genres, from current works and bestsellers, to classics and tomes on Mexico and Mexican history.

The meetings are held at 10 a.m., prior to the regular Amsoc Thursday luncheon. A film showing is offered after the meal at 2 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend the club’s meetings, and organizers stress that there is no obligation to read the chosen volume beforehand, although it makes for a more entertaining discussion if everyone does.

April’s discussion will be on “In the Shadow of the Angel” by Kathryn Blair, described as Mexico’s “Gone With the Wind,” a novel based on the life of an extraordinary Mexican woman  in the first three decades of the 20th century.
