Get involved in bird-observing projects

According to bird experts Kirey Barragán and Alejandra Galindo, there has been a massive boom in bird-observing projects in recent times that rely on ordinary people for their success.

Check out Zooniverse.org, where you will find dozens of “people-powered” research projects in which observations by thousands of laymen help scientists make huge strides in their study of weather, chimps, bees, muons, Martian ridges, gravitational waves, animal faces, sunspots and, of course, birds. Similar projects related to birds are ongoing right now in Guadalajara. If you are interested, contact organizations such as Tortilla con Chile, Birding Guadalajara, Red Observadora de Aves Guadalajara and Conteo de Aves de GDL, all of which are also the names of Facebook pages where you can see what these groups are doing and ask them questions. If you live near the lake, you can contact the Lake Chapala Birders (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
