American School gears up for annual art auction & festival

Serious collectors of art should note the date Friday, November 3 in their agendas.

That’s when the American School Foundation of Guadalajara will host its annual auction (subasta), a precursor to the 29th Art Fest, which will held be held a week later on Saturday, November 11 on the school grounds.

The auction this year starts at 7 p.m. at La Sauceda restaurant (Av. Américas 1160, Zapopan). Works by international and Mexican luminaries (Picasso, Calder, José Luis Cuevas, among others) will be put on the block alongside offerings by local artists. All collectors are welcome to attend.

The all-day festival (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) provides a great opportunity to purchase a wide range of art at a variety of prices from local artists, many of whom will be on hand to talk to browsers about their work.  In addition to the 48 artists’ booths, there will be live entertainment, food and drink stands and art workshops for kids.

This year’s featured artist is Roberto Rébora, an ex-alumni of the American School who has enjoyed a stellar career in Mexico and abroad, winning many awards for her work, which also includes several literary volumes.
