Guadalajara English-speaking congregations announce their Christmas worship services

At St. John Cristosomo Roman Catholic Church, the small English-speaking group will celebrate Mass Christmas morning (Monday, December 25) at 11 a.m. with Father Miguel Sención and seasonal songs with organ and violin accompaniment by the Valdivia family’s five-member orchestra. St. Mark’s Anglican Church will celebrate Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 6 p.m., with Mass and music by a 10-member choir with regular and professional singers directed by Debbie Matthew with Ana Silvia Guerrero on organ. The music consists of traditional hymns and choral anthems capped by “Silent Night” during a candle lighting ceremony, with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” as a finale. The chapel, known for its acoustics, will be filled with poinsettias. Following worship, refreshments are offered in the church hall. Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church is having its English Christmas Eve service during regular Sunday worship at 9:30 a.m. December 24. Guitar, piano and vocal hymns and Christmas music are planned, along with a Christmas-themed sermon by Pastor Thomas Kunkel. In addition, a bilingual new year thanksgiving service is planned for Sunday, January 7, noon. “This has always been a special, open service with people giving testimony about what they are thankful for in the past year,” Kunkel said.
