Agave, nopal & pitaya

The weekly Feria de Productores collective is putting on a special event this weekend paying homage to three quintessential and healthy Mexican food products:

agave, nopal and pitaya. Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, from 11 a.m. at the Club de Leones de Guadalajara, Av. de los Leones 75, Col. Tepeyac Casino, Zapopan (one block from Av. Tepeyac and the Lutheran Church).

Celebrating cats

This weekend’s Miau Fest celebrates cats of all descriptions, but essentially tries to find good homes for cats awaiting adoption.  There will be stands offering all kinds of cat-related items, as well as vegan food, drinks, clothes, organic and natural products and more. Musicians will provide the entertainment, There’s free entry but donations of cat food for shelters is welcomed.  The event runs Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days at the charming Jardín Americana, a colonial building located at Av. Vallarta 1305, Colonia Americana.

Irish dance show

Fans of all things Irish should head over to the plaza facing the huge Expiatorio Church Sunday, June 9 for a performance by the Comarca Irish show, an independent group of young people dedicated to promoting Irish dance and Celtic culture in Guadalajara.  The event is held under the umbrella of the Corredor Cultural y Alternativo Expiatorio A.C., a group that organizes cultural events and the sale of crafts and food in the plaza each Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. The Irish dancers will perform at 8 p.m.  The Expiatorio plaza is on Avenida Enrique Diaz de Leon, between Francisco I. Madero and Prisciliano Sanchez.
