New Year’s to sparkle at Lakeside

Partiers will have lots of fun choices for their New Year’s revelry at Lakeside. Several local restaurants will be putting out their holiday best with fabulous food and fun. Be sure to reserve early because your neighbors like to have a good time, too.

La Nueva Posada (Donato Guerra 9, Ajijic) will begin its festivities at 9 p.m. with a four-course meal served at 10:30 p.m. A glass of wine comes with the meal and a glass of Champagne at midnight. The dance band will be Grupo Ribereneno and expect a visit from Mariachi Chapala. The price is 750 pesos (includes tip and taxes) for advanced, prepaid reservations. Two Spoons (Ocampo 2, Ajijic) will stay low-key on December 31 with the regular menu and specials on wine and sparkling wine during the evening. Call 766-5089.

Number Four (Donato Guerra 4, Ajijic) will serve a choice of four main courses: roasted duckling, AAA imported U.S. steak, peppercorn steak or French style bouillabaisse. There will be unlimited Champagne at midnight, red carpet photos, and party favors. Dance music with cumbias, salsa, romantic, soft rock, oldies and pop will be provided by Noe and the Classics. The price is 1,200 pesos per person. Those interested in seating in the bar with bar service only can do so for 400 pesos. There will be lots of snacks and Champagne at midnight. La Bodega (16 de Septiembre 124, Ajijic) will serve Jerez mousse, and a choice of filet mignon, shrimp Meurniere or pollo Jamaica and dessert. There will be the traditional 12 grapes at midnight and a glass of sparkling wine. Los Pios from Guadalajara will play form 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The price is 480 pesos per person. La Bodega now accepts credit cards and has security cameras for your safety. Call 766-1002 for reservations.

Manix (Ocampo 57, Ajijic) The New Year’s Eve Gala will begin at 8:30 p.m. with dancing and dinner until 12:30 a.m. A five-course meal will be served, the bar will be open, Champagne and the 12 grapes served at midnight. Manix will set of its own fireworks castillo in the street and revelers (if they wish) will join the locals for a block party. The price is 850 pesos. Call 766-0061 for reservations.

Bruno’s (Carretera 20, Ajijic) will serve potato leek soup, Bruno’s Roquefort salad and a choice of roast pork with stuffing and gravy, filet mignon, breast of chicken sautéed in butter and finished on the grill with garlic butter parmesan and lemon, baked potato and cauliflower and dessert. The price is 250 pesos (tip not included). Bring your special wine but there will be a corkage fee. Reservations will be taken from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at (cel.) 333-171-7798. Bruno’s will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Roberto’s (on the Carretera just east of the Waffle House) will be open New Year’s Eve using the regular dinner menu from 120 pesos. There will be extra specials like roast young turkey with all the trimmings for 130 pesos, New York Roquefort steak for 150 pesos, duckling a l’orange for 225 pesos, extra giant seafood stuffed scampi at 195 pesos, monster lobster tail for two at 595 pesos or red wine and apricot loin of lamb for 195 pesos, serving from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reserve at 766-1616.

Early Bird Café (Ocampo 30, Ajijic) will be open New Year’s Day, serving their Sunday special: filet, eggs and taters and steak Benedict from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call for reservations at 766-5063.

Armando’s Hideaway (Privada Ocampo 18, between Ocampo and Zaragoza, Ajijic) will be open New Year’s Day, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The special will be asparagus cream soup, lobster Thermidor and cake for dessert for 250 pesos. Call 766-2229 for reservations.
