Anglican fellowship on the road (again)

Christ Church Anglican Fellowship of Ajijic (sometimes referred to as St. Manix as the congregation meets at Manix Restaurant), will take their “Church-in-a-Box” worship service and a “Moveable Feast” for the picnic afterward to “La Sagrada Familia” (The Holy Family) congregation in Mazamitla on August 5.

La Sagrada Familia, also an organized mission of the Diocese of Western Mexico of the Anglican Church of Mexico, meets in the Mazamitla home of Professor Faustino Garcia Martinez and his wife Guillermina Tejeda Galvez. This will be Christ Church’s second such visit to Mazamitla. Since the circuit pastor who usually served them had been ill and unavailable for some time, Christ Church took a “Church-in-a-Box” and picnic to them on March 18. The event was a great success, the camaraderie inspiring and uplifting to both congregations.

The “Church-in-the-Box” idea is nothing new to Christ Church vicar Danny Borkowski. He spent many years in a country where he carried worship services to different locations in order to serve small groups of parishioners. Christ Church congregants voted earlier this year to cancel their August 5 service at Manix in Ajijic and to take it to The Holy Family congregation in Mazamitla, where members are still awaiting the appointment of a new circuit preacher.

Newcomers and visitors, as well as members of other churches, are welcome to join in this experience. Those going from Lakeside will meet at Farmacias Guadalajara in Ajijic and depart promptly at 9 a.m. with a dish to share at the fried chicken picnic to include both congregations. Those wishing to participate in this event must let Kay Borkowski know that they are going so that enough rides (and fried chicken) can be arranged.
