Classes start for in-home care givers

New courses offered by the Family Development Agency (DIF) will go a long way toward providing help for the increasing numbers of expatriates living alone and needing health care supervision.

An expert nurse will give weekend courses to train men and women to work with senior citizens, folks laid up after surgery or those who need temporary or permanent care.

The one-year courses will be given on the premises of DIF in Chapala and require a minimum of six pupils and a maximum of 15. A second course will be offered for a second year to gain higher qualifications.

The Nurse Auxiliary course starts with a one-year commitment to attend classes on Saturdays mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is 4,000 pesos. The Caretaker for Seniors course runs one year on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs 3,000 pesos. English classes related to the subjects will be added to the curriculum if there are enough interested parties. All of those who complete the courses will receive official proof of studies. Candidates can be any age or gender but all must have finished their junior high school level studies.

If you are interested in the classes, you would like to see your help get more and better training, or you are willing to provide scholarships for those in need, contact Dr. Martha Nussgen at 766-2549.
