Jewish congregation celebrates holy days

The Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation sees the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur as an ideal time for Jews in the Lakeside area to come together.

Rosh Hashanah (the new year) services offered at the non-denominational egalitarian synagogue begin on Monday, September 16, 6:45 p.m. and continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 17 and 18, at 10 a.m.

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) begins with Kol Nidre on Tuesday, September 25, 6:45 p.m. and continues on Wednesday, September 26, 10 a.m., with a community Break the Fast following the service. A Yiskor service will be offered on September 26, 4 p.m.

Tickets are 500 pesos per person for non-members of the congregation. The tickets cover all of the services for both holidays. Member tickets are included in their membership. Visiting family of members may purchase tickets for 250 pesos per person.

All services will be held at the synagogue located at Calle Santa Margarita 113 in Riberas del Pilar.
