Community stalwart struggles with medical bills

Friends of longtime Ajijic resident Tod Jonson, who is recovering from a heart attack, are seeking donations to help offset his medical expenses.

Jonson was very active in community affairs for many years but has split his time between Lakeside and Fairhope, Alabama for the past two years.

Having just arrived from the United States two weeks ago, he suffered a cardiac arterial blockage and was taken to Guadalajara’s Hospital Bernadette.

Stabilized and released after a week’s stay in hospital, Jonson is now on permanent oxygen and residing at a local convalescent home.

Hospital Bernadette has lowered his bill to 100,000 pesos, which must be paid by October 15. However, Jonson needs more surgery for the installation of a pacemaker.

Physicians at the Hospital Civil in Guadalajara have agreed to do the surgery for another 50,000 pesos.

Jonson has few funds and no health insurance. He is anxious to sell off many personal treasures that are located in two houses at Lakeside. A date is being set for the recovery of those items and an eventual sale. Help will be needed to move the furnishings and other things to the sale venue.
