Big bash for local charities slated for Lake Chapala’s south shore

The first and — if all those doomsday soothsayers are correct — the last Bring On the Apocalypse Bash (BOTAB, for short) charity fundraiser will be held on Lake Chapala’s south shore Tuesday, Nov. 27 from noon to 6 p.m. One hundred percent of profits raised will go toward Lakeside charities.

The event, presented by Laguna-Chapala-Dot-Com (www.lagunachapala.com), will be held on the grounds of the beautiful Haciendas Rancho del Lago, located on the lakeshore just past Tuxcueca about 25 minutes from Jocotepec. The event will feature numerous food booths, entertainment, drinks available, door prizes, and additional raffles for various grand prizes including works by local artisans and even a three-night stay at a Manzanillo beachfront hotel (with breakfast included). Various auctions posted online will be offered in advance of the event, also with all proceeds and auction commissions going to charity. Entrance fee is 75 pesos.

Buses have been chartered for those who wish not to drive (or drink and drive) at only 150 pesos round-trip, with stops in Chapala, San Antonio, Ajijic, San Juan Cosalá and Jocotepec. Again, all monies beyond the actual cost to charter the buses will go toward local charities. Tickets can be purchased at Diane Pearl Colecciones at Colón 1 in Ajijic and The Guadalajara Reporter satellite office located in the Plaza Bugambilias, Ajijic. Look for a complete list of bus pick-up/drop-off locations and ticket sale locations and contacts online at www.lagunachapala.com/botab-home.

Among the entertainers at the BOTAB event will be Daniel Cordero, recently returned from a whirlwind tour covering central Mexico, and currently appearing four nights a week at the Twin Lions Casino in Guadalajara. An award-winning performer and composer with a repertoire of over 600 popular and original songs, Cordero has wowed audiences in Cancun, Las Vegas and other resort areas.

Event sponsors are currently conducting an online survey where site visitors can vote for their favorite charities. All proceeds from the BOTAB event will be split 50%-30%-20% respectively between the top three charities with the most votes. In the lead at press time was Villa Infantil, Cruz Roja and Anita’s Animals.
