Shelter kids bash the piggies

For the third year in a row, 40 kids at the Love in Action Children’s Center had the pleasure of breaking 45 piggy banks and counting the money collected in them by generous volunteers in the community.

The annual event raises money for “something special” just for the children, many abandoned or neglected by their families, who live at Love in Action in Chapala.

The “take” this year was 15,000 pesos and will be used to take the kids on a very special day trip to the beach at Easter time.

Besides organizing the event, Eleanor Feeney, operator of the Quinta del Sol B&B, also provides the pizza and juice boxes for the children.

She’s also good friends with the Three Kings who arrive, elegantly dressed in full royal regalia, to put their special polish on the day.

New piggy banks are already available for those who want to see the tradition continue in 2014. Do consider taking a bank to fill with your small change or larger denominations. To get your bank contact Feeney at (376) 766-0926 or www.quintadelsolajijic.com.
