Shriners getting ready for the ribs

The 7th Annual Lake Chapala Shrine Club Ribfest, held again at the beautiful Villa Encantada located on the curve heading into Chapala from Ajijic, is coming up on Wednesday, March 6, 2-6 p.m.

Sticking with a good thing, this year’s Ribfest will again feature Tony’s “world famous” ribs. For those who don’t care for Tony’s ribs (and they are few), chicken will be available. Guests can choose one or the other or both.

Food service will start promptly at 2 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m.  Tickets are 350 pesos, and are available from Noble Denis Kergommeaux (the event chairman) at 766-2200, Noble Perry King (ticket sales chairman) 763-5126 or any Shriner.  There are tables for ten people – so get a group together.

In addition to the ribs and chicken, all the trimmings will be available and two no-host bars will be in operation throughout the event. As always, great entertainment will be ongoing from start to finish, and dancing is allowed (even encouraged).  Door prizes will be presented, too.  Parking will be available in the lot just east of Villa Encantada and handicap parking in front of the entrance. There is limited parking on the street, but take care not to block the ciclopista or the traffic cops will issue a ticket. Additional parking will be available at the Monte Carlo Hotel and near the Maskaras Clinic (look for the signs) where the Hope House tourist bus will pick you up and take you to the event, and return.

The Ribfest fundraising event is the major source of revenue for the Lake Chapala Shrine Club.  The Club assisted 854 children from 2006 to 2011 to the tune of 1,535,891 pesos. Last year was a record year with the club assisting 354 children (182 to the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital in Mexico City and 172 treated locally) at a cost of 308,685 pesos.

The Shriners and the kids thank the community for past support, and look forward to seeing everyone on March 6.
