Animal sanctuary readies for charity bazaar

Looking for a way to unload unwanted household goods and other belongings in support of a worthy cause? Consider contributing stuff to the bazaar that will be held Saturday, December 7, in conjunction with the fund-raising open house at Las Calaveras, lakeside’s one-of-a-kind animal rescue sanctuary.

Located on the Mezcala highway about 1.5 kilometers east of Chapala, Las Calaveras is the peaceful country haven where Siegrid Hernandez takes in all kinds of distressed critters, ranging from injured wild fauna to abandoned farm animals to physically or emotionally damaged domestic pets not fit for adoption.

Hernandez is the wife of local vet Pepe Magaña who provides all medical care for her menagerie. Otherwise, she is the full-time animal caretaker, aided only by a single hired hand.

Look for more details about the benefit event in next week’s Reporter. Meanwhile, donations for the second-hand sale may be delivered to San Luis 17 in lower Riberas del Pilar, or call Hernandez at Cel. 331-153-0116 for pick-up service.
