South shore children’s home welcomes much needed truckload of supplies from border city

A large container truck pulled up at the Villa Infantil de Guadalupe y San Jose last week loaded with non-perishable Heinz foods, fruits and other supplies with an estimated value of around 120,000 pesos.

The joy of the children when they saw the truck was equaled by the delighted smiles of the nuns who often struggle to fill the home’s pantries during the slow summer season when donations can be scarce.

The donation is the result of a collaboration between the Casa Flores B&B in Ajijic and the Zemog Trucking Company in Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas.

Zemog Vice President Miguel Gomez Tapia and Casa Flores B&B owners Steve Cross and Fernando Gomez – longtime supporters of the children’s home – came up with the plan after a visit to the south shore facility last year.

The 30 orphans and their four caregivers expressed their gratitude for this important donation during the summer months.
